How vital/effective are apothecaries? I'm creating an orc team and I plan on buying goblins sometime in the near future, which means I want to have money available to buy them with after my first few games. I have a choice to either hire an apoth. or buy another lineman, bringing my team to 12 strong. My ultimate question is, would hiring an apoth. be more or less beneficial than another lineman? If I don't hire one, would I be buying replacement orcs before I buy goblins? Should I take the risk for the extra player? And in general, how high on your priorities do apothecaries rank? Thank you. |

With most teams, I hire one as soon as i can afford one. Look at it this way ... most players cost at least 50k, and when one dies, or receives an injury that results in retirement, the apothecary has a 5/6 chance of preventing that from happening. In addition, that player might have some SPPs, or even a couple of skills, and they make a big difference to how good a particular player is.
I rarely take one on a starting team (though i have on occasion), as I prefer to spend the cash on RRs, which double in price after the team has been created. |

voted As soon as possible. Not that i do not want him from the start - but many races cannot afford him from game 1 (if they want 1-2 rerolls).
In groups/tournements where retiring teams is not an option - I almost always start with the apo |

Ditto what Laviak said. They're always my first purchase after team creation, even if that means going to less than 11 players (i.e. I'd get an apo before I spent money on replacing any players I might have lost in the first game or two).
But then I play mostly elves - they get hurt and are more expensive to replace so the risk is too high. If you play high AV teams and/or with cheap lineman - thralls, skeletons etc - then you can probably go a few more games without the apo.
Otherwise they're essential (except if you play Khemri of course  ). |

Hey it happened to me too and to add some pain my apoth failed like always when your on a bad roll day
The funny thing is the luck ration and you have to keep in mind i have MB on most of my guys and still no elves are injured...
But before seeing mnemon matches i though that was gonna be a one time happening but hey it happend 3 times to him (praying it wont happen to me)
