About the tragedy.
(This is a serious blog entry, sorry if I spoil your mood.)

Some of you might have noticed the nightmare Norway experienced a couple of weeks ago. A complete maniac set of a bomb in Oslo, right next to the political centre. In addition to this he travelled to a political youth camp and went on a killing spree. So far the body count is 8 dead after the bombing, 69 dead after the shooting. The shooting victims was for the most part teens, some as young as 14.

Anyway, our country is slowly recovering from this, but we will probably never be the same. The reason I write this is because of an article a Norwegian journalist based in the US wrote about the media aftermath after the tragedy. If you're interested in politics and media it's a good and important read.

Take care.

The bombing and shootings were shocking and a terrible waste of life. The media coverage in some places was indeed dispicable, especially Glenn Beck.

media coverage being biased, speculative and even fabricated? that's shocking!

This was a interesting article. Thanks.

If FOX News was a newspaper, it would make The Sun look like the Wall Street Journal.

FAIR AND BALANCED

well, yes, but then we all know Glenn Beck is a freaking retard (apologies to retards).

@t0tem: To the regular European the extend of stuff like that going on in US media is indeed shocking.

Excellent read, but not sure that criticism should be heaped exclusively on the _US_ media...

I'm sure the papers in my own UK have got the facts wrong as well.

An excellent read.

It's really sad but this kind of thing has been going on in US media a long time. Media don't report the news anymore, they make the news. And usually the way their political party affiliations go.
You want anykind of trueth of US news media? You have to watch Daily Show or Colbert Report. Sure they are comedy shows but they speak more truth than most news.

lobo, what about NPR? PBS?

Depending on your pet peeve, the guy was either a right-extremist terrorist, a pro-Israel terrorist, or a gamer-gone-mad. Press sucks.

There's so many things I want to say about this tragedy. I wasn't there myself, but in my youth I was a member of the youth organization, I've been to the island, I used to live nearby, I drive past it every time I visit my parents. It's scary when it hits so close to home. For the last weeks I've avoided reading foreign newspapers about the event, and I've limited reading norwegian news to factual information and news, aswell as the responce of the norwegian people and politicians (which was heartwarming).
Glenn Beck and Fox News were already on my ignore list long before their latest misinformation.

In comparison to NPR and PBS, FOX is fair and balanced. Such things shouldn't be graded on a curve, though. Glenn Beck, however, is just a mean-spirited version of Pat Robertson.

You seriously think NPR and PBS are less balanced than Fox?

Jesus, were you chewing on a corn stalk and loading yr shotgun to shoot you some Mexicans as you typed that?
Posted by DragonsMaw on 2011-08-10 00:48:33
No no pyth... You crossed Nebraska and Arizona on that one... This far north we try to hang blacks rather than shoot mexicans, not enough of them get through the southern states anymore...

Seriously to the post though... I won't read it... News isn't worth reading... I don't need to know what's going on in the world, it's all the same now, just who does the shooting and who does the dying...

very good article, and I am always glad to learn the correct information about both this tragedy and Norway. It was a horrible thing, and all the people involved have my sympathy and hope for true justice (not just the justice we flawed humans can give).

@DragonsMaw: The post is less about the shooting, and more about how easy it is to put your opinion on news and make it sound how you want it to.

well, guess you arn't around the seasonal Mexicans, are ya? lol
