NCBB Upstart Headed to Warsatch

Preparing for their first season in the NCBB the Utah Runnin' Brutes take on the daunting task of an all Freshman squad. Regardless, the Brutes feel that though they're sure of growing pains, they have the players and the coach to lay the foundation for a perennial powerhouse to come.

The Brutes look to employ a time-tested strategy of a grinding efficient running attack, and staunch defense. Head Coach Buck has said, "We're not going to light up any score boards, but a 1-0, 2-1 victory will be just fine for us. We've got a tough D. Our plan is to get a score on the board, and hope to clear the pitch before our opponents have a chance to do much else." He's taken to believe that his freshman Thrower, Skizzik, is more of a runner than a passer, but has the qualities to do either if the situation demanded it. "Oh yeah, Skizzik is a talented player. He's the real leader of the crew. He'll step in and play some Safety as well, but he's a runner at heart."

Coach Buck also feels strongly about his incoming core of Blitzers, "Really fresh out the gate you can't ask for a much more solid a group. They're fast, talented, and they love to hit. Right now we've yet to really see anyone stand out as a leader of our Blitzer crew, but they can put a world of hurt on a guy, even 1-on-1. They're going to do big things this season."

With regard to the men up front, Coach Buck believes they have natural talent, but it's raw and untested. "Our Bigs are solid. They're strong as bulls, but most of them haven't actually played much organized ball. It'll be nice to give them a chance to play against other boys their size. Ig in particular is a load. I look forward to seeing what they can do."

The Brutes are excited to join the league, and they're anxious to compete. With the current NCBB season just wrapping up, fresh faced Head Coach Buck is taking the time to sharpen his own craft, and scout out his opponents. With regard to the league Coach Buck quoted, "It's definitely a talented group. I'm going to be a fish out of water for some time I'm sure, but we'll come around. I'm going to watch some games, get the lay of the land a little, and take a few spring games, but come game day, we'll be ready."

In response to one game that he is looking forward to seeing most, he chuckled and grinned, "BYU, rain or shine, Seniors,Freshmen, whatever. Looking forward to seeing those guys on the pitch."

This is very cool. I too am from Utah and it is good to see you guys taking on the rest of the league. Since BYU and Utah both have coaches maybe I should sign up for a Utah State team.....

Good luck to both of you.
