DLE: Averheim Press Conference - Part I
With the huge wave of DLE press releases, the River Bandits' management feels pushed to dive even deeper in media coverage as they did so far. That's the reason why General Manager / Head Coach FRSHMN invited several known DLE reporters and blood bowl analysts to the River Bandits' training facilities in the outskirts of Averheim.
A small platform has been fastly carpentered, serveral chairs on it as well as a microphone so even the media people in the last row get to hear what the powers in Averheim have to tell them.

The start is being made by a Halfling wearing a sports suit in River Bandits colours.

Hello everybody. Nice to see that so many of you from all over the Empire have followed our calls. My name is Humphrey Pfefferkorn, and I am the media spokesman "slash" sports psychologist "slash" kit manager "slash" nutritional advisor "slash" head cook of the Averheim River Bandits. It is my duty "slash" honour to summarise our achievements in our inaugural season, DLE season 2. We were a late entry, the last team to make it into the group of expansion teams. We successfully went through our first draft, managing to fill 12 positions in our 16-men-squad with drafted and franchise "slash" draft equivalent players. That made us the second most successful draft team in season 2, runner up only to the Sharks of Skar Bay.
First half of the season has to be described as underperforming... not really bad, but not according to the expectations as well. The goal of making the play-offs was seriously at risk but an outstanding second half brought the Bandits back on track, finishing second in KFC East, equal on points with Nuln but with two losses to those "Martha Fuggers".
As a wildcard contender we had to meet the Gunners from Nuln for a third time this season. According to bookies we were the true underdog in this match-up, but the journey did not end there. We defeated Nuln in a hard-fought battle that went to overtime. The season 1 champions from Flashfurt couldn't stop us as well, same is true for the bookies' favourites, the Broekwater Patriots. As KFC champions we marched to the superbowl, where we had to bow before the Kemperbad Knights.
Okay, so far to our little lesson in history, let's see if GM "slash" Head Coach FRSHMN is ready to join our little "Fellowship of the Pigskin"...

Right at this moment, some figures walk over from a nearby building, after a moment it becomes clear that these are: GM / Head Coach FRSHMN, star draftee Marc Barron as well as the latest reinforcement to the training staff, defensive coordinator and former River Bandits' linebacker Derrick Brooks. The Coach walks to his media spokesman, smiles and handshakes are exchanged before the halfling hands over the mic to his boss. FRSHMN starts his speech.

Hello everybody. Nice to see that so many of you from all over the Empire have followed our calls. It is my duty / honour to summarise our achievements in our inaugural season...

Muttering and chatters arise, as the reporters realize that they get to hear not only another lesson in Averheim history but the same one already heard from Mr. Pfefferkorn.

Order, order, order... please, get back to your seats and listen up, please. I was just kidding. I'm pretty sure you already have heard this, perfectly declaimed by the profound Mister Humphrey Pfefferkorn. Let's get over to what you guys want to know. Any questions?

It takes some seconds until the reporters calm down again, but finally hands are raised, one after the other.

Alright, as the gentlemen that we all are, let's start with this lovely lady's first question. Mrs. Hertha Wendlinger, Carroburg Tageszeitung, if I remember it correctly, what is your question?

The Carroburg Tageszeitung reporter blushes, but regains her professional reporter's mask the next moment.

Thanks coach. You got me for a moment. But no candy words, as sweet as they may sound, will help you get easily through this. Here's my question: Coach FRSHMN, a lot of blood bowl analysts argued, that you were selling your team's future to gain a temporary headstart in season 2. What do you say to these reproaches?

Coach FRSHMN smiles before he answers.

You got me all wrong. It was never my intention to dodge any of your sharp words, Mrs. Wendlinger. And you are right, these repoaches have been there. But I think, we have proven these repoaches to be baseless. We had eight picks in the season 2 draft, followed by five picks in season 3. We still hold two picks for season 4 draft and all of our original four for season 5.
On the other hand, we have a complete roster, full of skilled players to discharge the different tasks during a match of blood bowl. And even if we wouldn't have any draft picks left, these players would still represent their draft value... and to be honest, some of them are worth much more as what we had to pay for them in draft capital.
You see, I strongly believe that our future is secured.

Next question, let me see. Is this you, Pavel Lokren of the well-known Spike Magazine? Of course it's you. What is your question?

The reporter stands up and fomulates his question.

Thank you. Follow up question to the one formulated by my... uhm... lovely collegue from Carroburg. Your draft plans underwent a huge setback with the untimely passing of Nick Toon. Several draft agreements voided. My question: In retroperspective, did you agree too early to these trades? Wouldn't it have been wiser too wait for your season to end and then getting active on the trade market?

Coach FRSHMN doesn't like the direction this press conference is going to, but keeps his good face to the matter.

Yes... Yeah. Uhm... you know, I asked myself the same. But you know what? I don't know. I mean, would this block in the Conference Final have been less deadly, if I hadn't yet agreed on trading Nick by that time? I don't think so. But, and that is what I really want to highlight: There was an opportunity at a certain time, and I jumped on it. Had I waited until the season was over, who knows if this opportunity would have still been there. You know, trading is a game of opportunity, and you have to risk something to gain something.
Next question please.

Humphrey Pfefferkorn steps up to the micropohone once again and speaks up.

Come on, guys. You really seem to be a bit harsh, don't you think so? Getting on our poor little GM as if he just had the worst season one could think of. We were in the Superbowl, "Gaude Demmit". Show him some luv, he really deserves it. Or get the "Fugger" out of here.

To be continued...

Marienburg Journal would like to add a question: Who is the favourite non player in draft4, that is not expected to be a 1st rounder? An example to show who would be perfect Bandit within reach?

The Rotenbach Gazette has a question aswell. What was the stategy behind the now famous "Averheim punt" in the SuperBowl?
Posted by FRSHMN on 2017-01-16 14:19:37
Not getting where Marienburg is heading towards, but I think I get what Rotenbach is refering to:

The “Averheim Punt“ was about getting the ball out of a great danger zone to somewhere where it was possible for me to regain control of it. At the same time the punt aimed for making it more difficult for the opposing team to take it and score. Which wasn't a completely dumb thought as they walked it in only seconds before the halftime whistle was blown.
