My first 20 some games Bloodbowl
Soooo just for myself and the entertained reader, i will try to sum up some things, i might or might not have learnt in my first games of Bloodbowl. I came in really raw, having played Warmachine and one tutorial game of Guildball, so i kinda knew, what fantasy football was all about, right? Just kidding.

Noone off my ramblings are really new (i picked them up from a lot of sources) and some might be even completly off.

I present to you "TODAY I LEARNED IN BLOODBOWL":

- Emotional stuff is bad for your game. (OH HI CAPTAIN OBVIOUS)
- Dont go on tilt (OH HI AGAIN CAPTAIN OBVIOUS)
- Dont give up tooo easily, but have an exit strategy for your team and a match. (Live to fight another day, so to say)
- Playing very agile or very strong teams, can be a pain in the butt.

Blocking:
Minus 2 Dice: NO NO, only when the game depends on it.
1 Dice: You might try this, when you have block.
2 Dice: Decent, even better with block. They can still go wrong, but they are the plan of attack.
3 Dice: Very good, BUT you might have overcomitted for it. Be aware of situations, that just bind up your players in scrum fest, esp. when you are down block / guard or STR.
Pass people along the line if possible.
PUSHBACKS can be your friend against high str teams.
If you can't get a hole, dont open yourself up for a hole.

Dodging:
Dangerous and risky, if you can help it, dont do it in the beginning off your turn.
Can be surprisingly good, it can cause a turnover, but it can get you out off sticky situations and the statement that really blew my mind, when you are facing dangerous guys: "If you fail, atleast the grass does not have might blow!!!!"
Some elfs and other players are very good at it.

Speed
The pitch is a small enough place, you might not get away from everybody, but sometimes you can make a run for it! If it gets a TD, you might risk a Go for it or two, but never rely on it. Sometimes when you are faster, your own GFIs can even force more players by your opponent. Getting behind the enemy offense can be scary and dangerous, but also rewarding.

Wargaming
WE ARE NOT WARGAMING! But in a way we are still wargaming.
You dont want the first strike everytime, against slower teams you might want to hang back and avoid contact.
Even though we are not wargaming, try to keep your forces together, or atleast try some fractions close to each other, so they can support each other.
If you have it, keep a mobile reserve to exploit or seal up a line.
Tackle zones are sometimes better than contacts.
Sometimes the first guy to commit to the scrum, loses out.
Cut your losses, if you cant win a scrum, prepare an exit plan.

Attrition
Counting on hurting players is BAD, BAD, BAD.
Though if you are able to hurt players, it can turn the tide.
Dont try to bash vs STR teams or a lot of block.
You CAN try to hurt weaker teams, but have another plan.

Play the ball!
If you can play the ball, play the ball.
Keep the ball safe.
Make the ball dangerous for your opponent.
A pass is dangerous, but a pass can be golden!
If you dont have RR, dont pickup in the face of danger, put tacklezones on the ball and wait for your opponent to get greedy, you might get lucky.
Touchdowns can be hard. Touchdowns are really cool.

Skills
Block YES.
Frenzy -> dangerous, handle with care, dont put yourself out of position.

I will add more specifics on my Necros soon.

You have made some very nice notes there! Stick to that list and you'll become a very good coach in no time!

One thing I have learned to look only just recently, and I have played over 1000 matches, is that during my turn I try to see what the opponent can do on their turn. That way I am trying to position my players so that it is difficult for the opponent to move up. In other words, I try not to leave any weak links on my defense/offense.

Very nice.

One thing I'd contend on blocking (and my opinion may be warped from too much stunty madness):

Minus two dice when you have Block and the other player doesn't is not anything to be fearful of, if you have a reroll. It's a bit scary, but blocking a minotaur with a human blitzer can pay dividends when the bull headed lump can't get up. See also dwarfs taking out tomb guardians and other nonsense (Even without a reroll, you've got a better than two thirds chance of not going down, and a 25% chance of leaving him on the floor. Just remember to be lucky, that's all)

Conversely, 3d blocks when you don't have Block or Tackle can be infuriatingly unsuccessful - when you have three Ogres ganging up on an Amazon linewoman or a goblin, and you still only have a 42% chance of putting it down can start to mess with your view of whether the universe is fair or not.

That's why you back the Ogres up with Snots for the 3ds, not other Ogres and spread your big guy coverage farther.

I make my living on 3 die blocks, Ogres are a unique experience in that sense. ;)

I'd add:

1- It's better to just mark a player than to risk a block, go down, and let him go free in his turn.

2- A running game is always preferable to a passing game. Carry that ball to the endzone whenever possible.

3- Roll the least dice you can and make your opponent roll as many dice as possible. That's the overall golden rule of BB.
