Return to the blood bath
So after nearly 5 years I have recently returned to the game of FUMBBL. I was no expert before mind with a mere 180 games to my name it's hardly surprising that I don't have a good win % to boast about. Now I don't know if I'm playing in the wrong league or what but since my return I have played a handful of games on the new client (which is great by the way) and it seems like FUMBBL got my game settings set to Extreme ! Like WTF ! And what's up with all these plus thousand game Pros who delight in nothing better than destroying my team for 16 Turns. Come on ! No one like to be a punch bag for the whole game...

Sometimes I wonder if its even worth me turning up :(

Well, just looking at the game you're commenting on, I'll say you'll face a LOT nastier teams than that!

You wanna hit up Koadah and the 145 Club. Rookie league and great for gaining experience. Welcome back!

I experienced similar kind of thing after returning from many years of absence. A few observations I made that may or may not be true:

a) the game has evolved a lot and knowledge of optimal strategy has become more known, increasing the skill level of your average player a lot

b) optimal CRP play is very different to optimal LRB play, although on the surface it may not seem like much has actually changed; the small changes have a big effect

c) blood bowl is a very tough game and you need to play quite often to keep your own skill level up

oh, and it's definitely worth turning up! blood bowl has given me a reason to live when there werent any real life reasons worth living for in the past

Well, you got the best of me in your game back and I'm always playing different teams. Sure it can be trying at times but there's so many ways to play the game: leagues, tournies, box and ranked of course, stunty leeg. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, there is a niche for every bloodbowl itch here.

Well this is the description of the division you have chosen to play:

"The Blackbox division is a highly competitive, cut-throat division where coaches are not able to choose who they play against. The toughest, roughest teams compete for glory in this division and there is no mercy for the weak!
Note that this division is NOT for newcomers to either Blood Bowl nor FUMBBL."

Surely it can't be any clearer than that? You have made 5 new teams in this division right? if your frustration really is with what you describe, surely SURELY something about it must have started some alarm bells?

That being said, new box isn't that much of a cut-throat place. I don't see any of your games being noob bashing. Coaches have activated and got you. They have no choice about that, and they have played the same game as they would anyone.

As for bashing, from the looks, nobody has gone out the way to destroy your teams. You're playing a diverse selection of teams with good overall cas %. In fact, I would guess looking at the match reports you have a bash heavy style yourself. Your Chaos and Khemri from before both have positive cas records and are set up to cause injuries. The Khemri indeed state that their out for blood.

Could the problem be, that you are frustrated in not being able to win or bash how you wish to? Try 145 div league, it's cool, you'll have fun there. However from the matches you've played, you won't find games any more fun in Ranked or a competitive League with high level coaches.

I really think you need to sit down and calculate what you really are frustrated about.

If it's just your last game, then water off of a ducks back. If it's your cas %, then play heavier teams. If it's your win %, then play in a division where you can play coaches with a more even win % or better coaches with a slightly inferior team.

The balance is there, you just have to find it, and know what you are looking for.

Hey thanks for all the great comments, it helps a lot. Thanks Harvestmouse for being so honest, it's true I did like my bashy teams back in the day but could hardly ever win a game, I'd like to change that and there are more teams now so have created a few in the Box to try out, some I've not played before. I know the discription for the black box league is rough but always thought it a good place not to waste time and guarantee a game. My Khremi for example, would have never got a game back in the old league formate.

I understand why people bash and the pros of not giving the ball back, but sometimes the client just makes it 100 times worse and suspiciously I start getting the feeling that whatever I try is destined to fail. Even if it is really silly like dodge dodge GFI Blitz 2D Block your choice ;D, ok it's not always that ridiculous.

Happy to be back, even if I do have a winge from time to time (or after every game).

Thanks,
frogboy

The advantage that Ranked has is that you can choose to play mainly vs coaches of a similar level. If you can spot them among the sharks. ;)

Yes. I'm suggesting some picking.

If you have been away a while it is maybe worth brushing up a bit:

don't do blackbox
+1 on picking
find some games against similar coaches in gamefinder (avoid legends etc)
and join 145 club:

(leages are funnier in general imo)

other reasons to come back:
*Road to Naf next year https://fumbbl.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1837
*New client with dirty tricks
*Cusom rosters in [L] eventually.
*Thus secret league also eventually https://fumbbl.com/help:SecretLeague
