Background

When The World was at war Nuln was the epicentre of The Empire’s war machine manufacturing. Building great Steam Tanks and a variety of muskets, blunderbusses and other artillery. When warfare left The World and Blood Bowl took it’s place the clank of the machines ground to a halt. That is until two engineers - Karl Herstel and Stefan Wenckler started experimenting with using Pigeons to deliver a football from one end of a Blood Bowl pitch in to the arms of a Catcher at the other. The experiment worked, though the Catchers they employed from local Blood Bowl teams didn’t take kindly to being covered in pigeon droppings. Next Stefan and Karl repurposed old Blunderbusses to fire the ball from one end of the field to the other and instead armed the Pigeons with Bombs which they planned to drop on unsuspecting foes. They set up firing ranges and started training their own Catchers that became very proficient at diving to receive the wayward shots from the Blunderbusses. Before long these players started testing their unique play style in the local Oldlands Conference and to some success. The spectacle of the pigeon bombers and the great gun and run play style attracted great numbers in the region, especially with the former factory workers. As Nuln team’s popularity grew the factories re-opened and the engineers went back to work re-purposing their old machines of war for Blood Bowl. Smoke fills the sky above Nuln again and the city is flourishing to the sound of machinery and gunpowder.

Rationale

Nuln engineer teams is something I had considered for a long time, mainly because I loved the idea of the famous Pigeon Bombers featuring in some form, and also the Steam Tank and Blunderbuss from the region are very famous and central to the Empire's industrial lore.

The Linemen are standard Empire human linemen. The Blunderbuss players are the same as the Dwarf or Skaven Ballzooka/Jezzail players in their respective teams. As with those players I have removed Secret Weapon from these players as they are not Weapons used for attacking the opposition players. So like Doom Divers or Pogo players Blunderbuss players do not have SW. Which makes them usable.

Specialist Catchers were added to this team, to evoke the gunnery school themes and give the team a unique play style that is fitting with the Nuln region. The Gunners/Blunderbuss players shoot the ball the downfield to the Catchers, who are well trained in this drill and through years of training on the shooting ranges of Nuln have developed the Diving Catch ability, working in unison with their prized gunner team mates.

The Pigeon Bombers are humans with trained homing pigeons with bombs attached to them. The fuse would be lit. Then the pigeon flies over it's target and when the fuse burns low enough the bomb drops from the pigeon on to it's unsuspecting target. Then the pigeon returns to it's handler. The skills given to this player describe this ability.

Finally the Steam Tank was added, this is essentially a Deathroller, though it also has the ability to shoot bombs from it. So the cost has been adjusted appropirately.

The team do not play with the standard Human Blitzers. They have absolute faith in their Steam Tank and other weapons to hold the line and punch holes in the opposing teams so that their specialised Catchers can pounce on any opportunity to the win the game.
