Introducing the newest Major on Fumbbl.
Please Welcome
<b>The Crown Of Sand</b>

and their qualifiers, to which you should apply:
http://www.fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=group&op=view&group=7067&p=members
Each year the Tomb lords of the Khemri meet at a point in the desert, there power magic is called upon and the dusty mages conflagration sends up a beacon into the sky. Teams from all over the world see the sign and flock to the desert for the chance to compete for the Crown Of Sand.
Each Team has one week to seek in the desert, amidst the twisted dunes and desolate wastes, blasted with the magic of the Crown. For Eldritch reasons this legendary artefact guides each team to a camp, where all of their race congregate, around a central pillar of fire, The pillar itself growing stronger ans brighter with each arriving team. The 21 pillars of fire form a circle. In the centre of this ring, during the week of the gathering, a huge Pyramid rises from the sands, shorn half way of the tip and featuring instead a huge plateau of fields, marked in the dust of bones with fields of Blood Bowl play. At the very centre of this vast plain in the sky, risen from the desert, is a plinth. Atop it , on a pedestal of Skulls, Sits the Crown Of Sand itself. The winner of the Finals of the 'Crown Of Sands' will be allowed to place this item upon the head of their team captain, and recruit the results. As always the Crown will crumble, and as the sands hit the floor, up to 6 skeletons will rise and obey.
As the edifce is completed, 13 of the pillars, the smallest, wink out of existence and a sandstrom blows, the other races wander, as bands, and are guided to the remaining pillars of fire, form where tournaments are formed. These mighty Tournaments lead to single victors, and those remaining 8 are drawn into the finals of the Crown Of Sands. The CoS always draws some of the worlds great Star names, for the legendary artifact has spawned a legendary Blood Bowl-a-thon, now beamed via cabalvision to every corner of the globe.
SO, what that means:
Apply at 1 central point. At the moment of the draw, the 8 races with the most qualified teams form the First Race in the 8 draws. The other races, if represented in the applied teams, are placed at random into the 8 groups and the Tournaments are drawn. These provide 8 winners, who will contest the finals. The winner will recieve up to 6 Skeletons which they may add to their roster if they wish. One of these will come with the leader skill and will be skilled to 6spp. Qualifier winners may play no more than 3 games between qualifying and the finals. and best of luck if you do.
Edit:
Further explanations
Dates:
Applications Open January 20th
Groups Drawn January 27th
All dates are on calendar.
Qualifier filling mechanism:
Qualifier 1-8 decided by 8 largest racial groups applying. Note it is on application numbers, not existance numbers. Teams under TR175 will not be allowed.
The other 13 races roll a D8 and join the Group it dictates. Therefore, theoretically, we could have one group with 14 races and and seven with 1, but likely we'll get a chaotic mix of groups, some single race, some multiple.
These 8 groups will then form Tournaments of 16 teams maximum, but with no minimum. If, in your group, there is only 3 qualifying teams, then those 3 will compete for the right to proceed to the finals. If there are 47, then the top 16 will compete, with one sole proviso: Each race, assuming a team applies, will get at least 1 representative into the qualifiers.
So, a dummy draw:
First 8 groups are decided by the number of qualified teams applying:
Orc
Dwarf
Ogre
Khemri
Dark Elf
Chaos Dwarf
Chaos
Skaven
Then the other races are allocated at random, producing:
1 Orc, Vampire, Undead.
2 Dwarf
3 Ogre, Wood Elf
4 Khemri, High Elf
5 Dark Elf, Norse, Elf, Human
6 Chaos Dwarf, Amazon, Goblin,
7 Chaos, Lizardman
8 Skaven, Necromantic, Halfling. Nurgles Rotters.
So,
Draw 1 take the top TR applier from Orc, Vampire and Undead, and then fills with the 13 highest reamining TR applicants from those 3 races.
Draw 2 has only Dwarves, and only 11 Qualified team applied. All 11 are placed into a KO draw.
Draw 3 sees the 8 qualified Ogre teams, and both qualified Wood Elf teams, drawn ina 10 team KO tournament.
Etc etc.
The Prize: The prize is a balance between people 'wanting cool stuff' and people not wishing to stray from the LRB. I hope people will feel it is unique and fluffy without being, in any real way, powerful. There is a ba;lance to be found here, any prize at all will alienate some, and for many this won't be enough. i hope i have found the middle, or near it.[/url] |

Man skeletons are so overpowered!
[there you can stop waiting ]
..rather mystified that a KHEMRI tournament is producing a skeleton with Leader rather than one with DP though. |

Initially, I liked fluff and format.
I still like the fluff, but, on second thought, I wonder if 8 XFLs (which I have never been particularly excited about anyway) and a subsequent XFL master really should take up an entire Major-slot.
I expect 8 groups dominated and won by orcs, chaos, chaos dwarves, dwarves, khemri, dark elves, wood elves and skaven, with an odd high elf upset perhaps.
"Let's go for racial diversity!" "Yeah!"
"Let's have unpredictable match-ups!" "Yeah!"
"Let's play XFL-qualifiers!" "Yeah!"
Sorry for being not overly enthusiastic about this, but I am convinced that something better would have been possible here. Just to rule out mirror-matches in the last 7 games, tons of them have to be played in the qualifiers? I honestly fail to see the logic in this.
Just my 2 (totally meaningless, admittedly, as I will participate anyway as anybody else) 2p. |

I wondered what the draw might end up looking like. I took all the teams in [B] with TR 200+, and assumed that each was equally likely to enter. If a race had many entries, I filled up one group with them, and then if they still had enough to qualify they filled another group as well. I made groups of 16 teams each.
Here's what I ended up with:
Code: | A B C D E F G H
Orc Chaos Dwarf Orc Khemri Ogre Chaos Dwarf Dark Elf
Orc Chaos Dwarf Orc Khemri Ogre Chaos Dwarf Dark Elf
Orc Chaos Dwarf Orc Khemri Ogre Chaos Dwarf Dark Elf

Remaining teams, to be distributed at random in the remaining slots:
Chaos(4)
Human(4)
Wood Elf (3)
Skaven(2)
Lizardmen(2)
Elf(2)
Amazon(2)
Undead(1)
High Elf(1)
Vampire(1)
Rotters(1)
Necromantic(1)

Aren't the 8 races supposed to be 8 different ones? There are many orcs, but I don't think they should count as 2 races. |

To my view, that puts orcs in just about every group, and messes up the diversity that is supposed to show up in the final eight. Is that what is intended? |

That just means, that the orcs have a larger qualifier to beat each other into a pulp. |

So i'd say, applications start on the 20th, and by deduction from the fluff, the qualifiers start one week later, the 27th. |

And just when you thought that 100k gold was a crappy prize for a major, you are offered 1d6 skeletons... |
