I just want to know whether or not Dauntless is the only skill that doesn't auto-succeed on a 6 is intended or not.

I submitted it to FAQ in like July and only is an issue in the unlikely scenario of like a snotling with dauntless vs. a +ST Treeman but it's still weird that it's the only skill that doesn't specify that it succeeds on a 6.

Tentacles works in a similar way and also is a "Non-agility" skill but the rules specify that it always succeeds on a 6.

I strongly suspect the Keyword "Blocker" will be added to a few additional players, and in all likelihood they will be restricted from using the "Secure the Ball" action. I don't think it will be a blanket ST 4 restriction, and I think some ST 3 players may also be excluded.

Current Players today excluded if they use Blocker:
Jaguar Warrior Blocker
Chosen Blocker
Chaos Dwarf Blocker
Dwarf Blocker Lineman
Old World Dwarf Blocker
Saurus Blocker

Players I suspect might get tagged based on team composition and their role.
Big 'Un
Black Orc
Bloater
Bloodseeker
Flesh Golem
Imperial Bodyguard

ST 5 guys
Mummy
Tomb Guardian
Big Guys

ST 4 players that probably will be able to Secure the Ball:
Bull Centaur Blitzers
Ulfwerener*
Vampire Blitzers
Vampire Throwers

*Not really sure on the Ulfwerener, I could see them being classified as a Blitzer, but then again Berserkers also have that role so... Confused

I assume that keywords Thrower, Catcher,Blitzer, and Lineman/Linewoman will be able to use the action.

I don't know if that's what they did, but that sounds good : excluding Blockers, Big Guys and Star Players from Secure the Ball new action.

@EastCoast Big Uns are already called 'Big Un Blockers'

Also theres 'Old World Dwarf Blocker', with str3
Imperial Bodyguards are only str3, and whatabout Halfling Hefties

Vampires dont need it as they're 2+ anyway, unless its rain I guess or -AG injured

I'd be surprised if Saurus get denied from Secure, but Bulls and Ulfs allowed

Khemri Teams - Same as they are now but with Brawler Tomb Guardians

Bretonnian teams:

2 Grail Knight Blitzer - Steady Footing
2 Knight Catchers - Catch, Nerves of Steel
2 Knight Throwers - Pass, Nerves of Steel
0-16 Squires - Wrestle

Note - there are no peasants in the team, plus there is Dauntless in the team, likely on the Blitzers but it's not specified.

All templates are the same as is pitch size

New Secure the Ball action - can be used once a turn, and means you can pick the ball up on a 2+ if there are no opposing players within 2 squares. Big Guys can't use this action. It says it "ends your turn" I assume this means the players action, though it could possibly literally mean turn?

Wildly Inaccurate
no longer exists

The Kick off table has been "improved".
Officious ref doesn't exist anymore.
Dodgy Snack - don't know what this does yet but it's a new result

New key words:

"Distracted" is a status
"chomped" is a status

Monsterous Mouth works differently and can cause a Chomped status?

New Skills:

Steady Footing - if they are knocked down on a 6+ they remain standing
Eye Gouge - prevents a player from providing an assist

2 new spike magazines coming one for Brets, one for Khmeri

other teams
The rule book includes rejigged rosters for every team in the game

Secure the ball ends action, not turn.
Steady Footing works on falling over too.
The way I read the article I took it to mean all Knights have Dauntless but no confirmation on this.

Yeah, I read it the same way. I'm curious as to what they mean by Brets being a high-risk, high-reward team; it sounds like you can start with a full team of players with Block or Wrestle after all.

Mass Dauntless would be pretty interesting, especially if the team's Guard access is limited to the Grail Knights

whatabout Halfling Hefties

Hefties are Throwers.

I just think the primary goal of the new action is to reduce the instances of the negative experience of wasting multiple turns and rerolls trying to just pickup the kickoff.

The strength 3 players mentioned are almost always on the line on the kick off.

Bulls are often primary ball carriers, and are rarely on the line when receiving kick offs. It makes sense for them to be able to take the action. Saurus blockers? The majority are going to be on the line (maybe they'll split out Saurus Blockers and Saurus Blitzers this edition)? Ulfs are typically hitters, and never really ball carriers, so I think they'll get a Blocker designation.

Its because Skinks are far better at carrying the ball. They are significantly faster and can dodge. Scoring with a saurus is a luxury you can do for team development when you either are facing a weaker coach, or have been dominating the game.

I agree currently because they are difficult to get the ball to. But now its a 2+. Movement 6 is worse than movement 8, sure, but against a fresh 1000TV that doesn't have guard, its not going to be hard to slow roll down the field with your 5 other saurus's buying you space. Once you get like 5 or 6 games into a season, I think it becomes a luxury again as S3 teams start getting tools to help against a S4 ball carrier.

I play mostly S3 teams and I can say that when a bull centaur picks up the ball, its a huge pain and luck situation even when I outposition my opponent. Lizards have 3x the number of S4 players to make positioning even harder. I'd basically end up just praying I get to a situation that forces a dodge, which is rare to truly force, and opens my squishier team up to injuries.

Like think about who you would want to hand a touchback off to at 1000TV against a Skaven or Human team. If you give it to a Saurus, those two can't really do anything about it without getting lucky on an upblock, even if they outplay you and get an assist on the sack, a 1 die is still only 50% successful.

I personally wonder if there will be 4 category of players (with overlap) that skills and actions can be done with.

Lineman
Blocker/blitzer
Skilled
Big Guy

For a player to be able to use the secure the ball skill, they must be in a skill position. Like NFL, these would be quarterback (throwers) running back/option qbs (runners) and Catchers (wide receiver and tight end). Linemen are now based upon offense and defense linemen in the NFL, giving the primary guard access. Blockers or blitzers based upon linebackers and safeties in the NFL. Able to get tackle, frenzy and mighty blow as primary Skills.

I am confident this will NOT happen, but it would make the game thematically more interesting.
