Week 3 (11/16)
Demons Of Speed!
Seattle beats NY (3-1)

Seattle wins the coin toss and elects to receive. NY sets up a loose line and a slightly conservative Smokestack defense. Seattle, down their awesome OTT star for the game, is granted a wizard, a beer, and star blitzer Glart Smashrip Jr. They line up aggressively and catch the high kick. They don't get anything out of the opening 4 blocks, but they set up a really strong north push while keeping the ball conservatively behind the line of scrimmage. NY tries to put a stopper on the north push, but Seattle sits tight and cracks a couple skulls, including Santonio Holmes who gets patched up. NY hits the north drive hard, locking up all possibility of pushing through, so Seattle shifts south. The minotaur is sent in on a break tackle blitz, but trips on the frenzy follow up GFI. Seattle rakes out another rookie beastman and runs in a score. 1-0 Seattle and a 5 turn drive for NY, with Glart dead.

Seattle sets up a fodder line and a Morose Clown back. NY has a skinny roster and can only field at most 10 for the rest of the game. They play 5 up, 5 back. Immediately they take the 10 on 11 match up and render it 10 on 9 through a badly hurt block and a KO foul. Seattle gets a return KO on a warrior and strips the relatively exposed ball, but can't pick it up. NY takes a mino block before addressing the ball and suffers the 1/9 failure. Seattle takes the opening and grabs the ball. NY rides the fail train all the way to station, tripping on a vital dodge, and Seattle walks the ball south, scoring on turn 8. 2-0 Seattle

Wayne Hunter stays out through 2 KO rolls and its a dismal 9 on 11 plus wizard offense for NY. Seattle plays the Twin Triangle deep and NY pushes the center, immediately granting a -av injury onto a linerat, while KO'ing another to make it 9 on 9. They've bunched up, so Seattle drops the fireball on 6 players, hitting 3 and injuring the DP. They can't reach for the strip though, so they try pinning the north and south run routes. NY opens things a little and slides the ball to a semi-protected chaos warrior an appreciable distance from the ball hawk. Seattle scrambles to mark, but the ball carrier continues to advance. Seattle gets a good shot, but the ball bounces into the arms of Santonio Holmes. Santonio blitzes out, taking out the rookie rat blitzer in the process of scoring. 2-1 Seattle and a 5 turn drive for them.

7 on 11 is a tough defense for NY. Seattle gets the touchback and runs an almost invincible south route with it. NY tries their best, but with limited man power Seattle can use their high mobility to switch the run from south to north in a heartbeat. They run it in on turn 6 and the last 2 turns play deep defense while NY collects a consolation CAS and pass. 3-1 Seattle

Clutch moment of the game: First half offense for NY, the mino block that knocked himself over and lost the turn gave Seattle too much wiggle room to put up the second point.

MVP of the game: Golden Tate II for great presence and a vital strip.

Week 4 (1/16)
Do You Believe?
KC pulls out a miracle for a (2-1) win over Chicago

Chicago wins the coin toss and elects to receive. KC sets up a thrall line and the UFO defense. Chicago is granted a healthy stipend to try to counter the super vampires. They spend it on a wizard, a beer, and star player Setekh. They line up a short forward and prepare to ball handle with the DP ghoul but, BLITZ! The ball is midfield, but completely in star intercept vampire Shaun Draughn's range, and he gets his second blitz catch in back to back weeks. He is unprotected though, and Setekh hits the strip which the ghoul follows up with a pick up. The offensive guard is in shambles though, and it doesn't take much for the ghoul to be got at, KO'd, the ball picked up, and passed for a TD. 1-0 KC and a 7 turn drive for Chicago.

Same defense and same offense except the wolves are played further back. This drive starts much better for Chicago as a thrall is badly hurt on the line and a flesh golem blitz kills a second one, resulting in free fodder for Chicago as the ball is secured center. Chicago's next turn isn't as great, the ball moves forward a square, PO doesn't break the thrall's armor, and a fouler is ejected to no gain. KC tries to help with a feasted KO on said thrall, as they gaze their way in and knock the ball loose, but can only cover it. Key Vampire bruiser Tony Moeaki is KO'd, but Chicago can't make a play on the ball either. The scramble is cleared up by a bad snake eyed vampire dodge forfeiting KC's turn early. Two more vampires are removed from the pitch and KC makes plays, but it takes all their resources to do so and they can capitalize. Chicago runs in on turn 8. 1-1

Moeaki and Setekh are both sitting the KC drive out. Chicago's defense is tight center, and they've still got the wizard. KC plays light line, shallow forward and Cassell to receive. Perfect defense lets Chicago guard up the line. KC still breaks it though they get nothing but prones for the trouble. Chicago decides to brawl, locking up the KC front. Jamaal Charles gets a good blitz on Steve Maneater, who regens, and the ball goes nowhere. Chicago continues to slug it out and nabs a thrall, while pushing a golem into TZ of the ball. The golem is knocked down and a foul is attempted and failed, so KC cautiously backs up the ball a ways. Another thrall is removed, but the line is beginning to become separated and vampires are becoming open. Lightning bolt is finally popped on Cassell, who goes prone in relatively safe territory. Chicago hurts another thrall and grabs the ball but is isolated. A thrall is chewed, but the ball carrier is KOd and Cassell is in command once more. Vampire receivers are covered, and a desperate lack of thralls causes one to wander off the pitch. Matt Cassell shoots the ball to Jamaal Charles as Vampires are going hungry left and right. The ball is knocked loose.

IMPROBABLE PLAY WARNING: Rookie thrall Brandon Albert frees himself from his marks with a 4+ then 3+ dodge and GFI's 2+ into the end zone, Cassell passes his blood lust 2+, dodges 2+, dodges 2+, dodges 2+, dodges into 2 tzs with tackle on him 3+, grabs the ball 3+, dodges out 2+, dodges 2+, throws a long pass in a tz 3+, and the thrall catches 3+. No dodge, pass, or team rerolls is used. Odds of this play as is, without rerolls factored: 1.8%, or approx 1/56 making it without considering rerolls, officially the least probable sequence of the season so far. 2-1 KC and the win

Clutch moment of the game: As described above, Matt Cassell's fantastic connection to a rookie thrall for the win.

MVP of the game: Let's say...Matt Cassell?

I'm not in the business of seasonal predictions, that's someone elses game, but since someone else hasn't been doing their usual predictions, I'm going to offer this quiet peek at the current standings.

AFCE vs. NFCW

The AFCE is a division with one long standing team in the NA Bulltrots, a JETS team which has been around for a while, and 2nd and 1st year teams in Miami and Buffalo. All 4 teams have played their 1st 3 matches and the Bulltrots have the current lead at 17, with Buffalo at 10, Miami at 7 and the JETS sitting at 3 after a couple rough outings. Most of the divisional games have been played, other than for the JETS who face a rough stretch in weeks 4 and 5 facing 1st NA and then Miami. The only other divisional pairing is in week 7 with Buffalo facing off vs. Miami.

The NFCW is an old division filled with mostly young and new teams. The stalwart Rats of Seattle sit on top at the moment, but Arizona still has a week3 game to play and could catch them. The Orcs sit at 10, just 7 back of the current leader, though the In-Sane Louie Goats are learning just how rough the NBFL can be on rookie teams. It can take a while for chaos to round into form so hopefully coach Garnak has the fortitude to take his lumps this season while developing some in house players after losing their star draft pick and taking a -av on a 2nd.

AFCN vs. NFCS

The AFCN is another division undergoing a bit of a turn over with a new Cincy team joining 3 other youngish teams. That Cincy team is currently leading the division though Pit and Cleveland are still waiting on their week3 matches to finish. Baltimorc and Pitt have had very tough starts, still looking for their first points of the season, but assuming everything is ok in the coaching staff of Cleveland there should be an exciting finish to the 1st half with the Drowns trying to catch up to the Bludgeoners who have won 2 in a row after dropping their head to head.

The NFCS has one of the longest tenured franchises in all of the NBFL in Atlatl, who are off to a perfect start, even as they have been feeding their skinks to the dogs. Carolina is also sitting pretty at 2-0 and could catch the Falchions with their week3 game being unplayed, those 2 face off in week6 so keep an eye out for that one, it will probably determine the 1st half leader as Gnawleans, while playing well, is a rookie team, and Lothern Bay continues to lose draft picks, and has only managed one TD in 3 matches.

AFCS vs. NFCE

The AFCS features 2 new teams this season, and they are bookending the standings with Hacksonville sitting at 14 through 3 games while the slow starting Khemri of Indianecropolis have yet to claim any points through 2 matches. In between them are the two longest standing teams in the division, Houston and Tennesse. Tennesse has flashed a lot of individual brilliance, but they sit at 10 points, Houston is off to a slow start at 3 points in 2 matches, but both of these teams are packed with star power, and can easily find their ways to the top of the standings. Week 6 will have the face off of the current leaders in Hacksonville looking to put the past seasons champions Houston down even further.

The NFCE features the defending champs along with the fiery Amazons of Flashington. 2nd year Dallas and newcomers New York round out what is a very competitive division. NY has the current lead, but only with 13 points through 3 games. Flashington and Dallas can both reach 14 if they win their 3rd games. Philhala, the defending champs, sit at 10 points through 3 games, but have lost a number of star players including both Ulfs. Coach Relezite isn't going to cede the division just yet, but the road got a lot harder. Flashington and Dallas face off in week 7 which could produce the first half leader.

AFCW vs. NFCN

The AFCW is the division which boasts the most stability. All 4 teams have been in the league for at least 5 seasons, and no one is quite sure for just how long San Dogo and Oakland have been trying to murder each other. However this season there is a bit of a surprise, as KC currently sits at the top, a position they are not used to. Can they hang on? San Dogo and Denver both have a week 4 game to play, and can both catch KC in week 4, however San Dogo has also taken quite a beating of late, and they play their rivals (well one way rivalry?) in Oakland, always a fun match to watch. Denver will get Fangsas in week 5, another match to get to if you can.

The NFCN boasts a new Detroilet team to go along with paired Necro in Minnesota and Chicago. Green Gay is the reigning champ, but have taken a very rough start, losing players and sitting only on 9 points through 4 matches will have their work cut out to get back on top. Detroilet isn't fareing much better, but rookie Nurgle, like the rookie Chaos in St. Lou have a bit of a development curve to work through. And that leaves Minny and Chicago. Minnny sits at 20 points through 4 games, with Chicago at 13 through 3. Those 2 face off in week6, so keep an eye out for that one.

Good breakdown, Licker. But off the top, you got our VP count wrong in the assessment: if Flashington wins its Week 3 game, we'd have 17, not 14. And if you think New York isn't at least as big a threat as Dallas you don't know The_Provocateur. Likewise, while Week 3 was hard on Philhala, it's way too early to write them off. So, while the matchup between Flashington and Dallas is important, there will be no sorting-out in the first series for the NFCE. The "No Vacancy" sign is on in the Hobgoblin Hotel.

I wrote quite carefully (even if I misread your point total somehow) that the Flashington Dallas match up *COULD* produce the 1st half leader. I also didn't write off Philhala, I just said their task was made more difficult by the player loses they have taken.

I leave the predicting and power ranking to others Smile

STATS UPDATE!

Most teams, who are not total slackers, like Arizona and Miami, are through week 3. Many are even through week 4, 2 are even through week5!

Anyway, not a huge amount of change as the season moves on. The MVP race is even more muddy than it was before.

Tryhard of Hacksonville has tied up Beaston of New Angryland for the lead in TDs. Both are averaging 1 per match. Beaston is still leading the league in rushing, even after not touching the ball once in the JETS game.

Retarded Bradshaw, err, Billy is still running away with the passing game. He's upped his numbers to 8 completions for 39 paces through 4 games. Those numbers look pretty good to us, but he's a completely one dimensional player, having just added Strong Arm to his skill set. Still, if he keeps up that passing pace he will have to get some acknowledgement in the MVP voting, even if Buffalos record has fallen to 1-1-2.

In the Blocker catagory, DaJhon Harris of Tennesse is still leading the way with 7 CAS, but only on 3 games. He's still up topping the total SPP gained for the season having added an MVP to those 14 from the punching.

The all arounders have become quite muddled. No one stands out there any more. Captain Munnerlyn of Carowhina has separated himself from the rest in the Blocking Thrower category. While Anguan Gobldin of the Giants is the only player to sit on two all round top lists, including nabbing a triple in one match. As an AG5 blodge Vampire perhaps this should be expected, but even so, the stars shine when they are given the opportunity.

These standings are still very volatile with the spread of games per team ranging from 2 to 5. So if you think you have a player who deserves some recognition, let us know, we'll keep an eye for them if they can make it onto the top list!

Week 3 (12/16)
Welcome Back, We Missed You!
Carolina and the new Cleveland slug it out (1-1).

Cleveland wins the coin toss and elects to receive. Carolina lines up the south-side double-C and hires an extra doctor for the game. Cleveland sets up their unequaled bash line and gets a good kick off return catch setting up the north run. They immediately get to work on the elves, finally putting star wounded receiver Greg Olsen to rest permanently, and also taking out the DP for a couple games, neither of whom are deemed doctor worthy. Carolina sets up an 8-man foul on one of the meat grinding warriors, but rolls snake eyes and gets the rookie thrower ejected. Cleveland encircles the elves and runs hard north, Carolina breaks out though and attended the drive while putting the low av beast mangler out of the game. Cleveland KO's another elf and breaks free with Collins, putting him in range of the TD but very vulnerable. Carolina can't break the ball loose though, so has to settle for triple marking it. Collins breaks loose though on a blitz and re-positions the drive in more secure territory. They KO another elf, but are lax in securing the ball and Kuechly comes in for a strip. They can't pick it up though and Cleveland extends the man advantage to 10 on 4. Carolina enters preservation mode and patches up the blodge guard lino when gets badly hurt. Collins walks it in unopposed on turn 8. 1-0 Cleveland, Carolina gets halfway through a good OTT, but trips on the dodge.

All KO's are back for Carolina, which means they are fielding 11 on this drive. Cleveland sets up vanilla defense, Carolina plays strong forward. They deal no damage and spread out in the north core, prepared to find a hole and create a receiving run through it. Cleveland wraps up and around the line and KO's one of the catchers. Carolina keeps the ball in the deep backfield as they block KO and foul KO two warriors and for one glorious moment have the man advantage themselves. Cleveland immediately remedies this by killing a niggled lineelf as they GFI into the back to mark the ball. Carolina throws off the mark and spreads out the receivers. Cleveland gets a good 1d blitz on the thrower, but it comes up skull. They become a little over committed to the backfield and suddenly Carolina shoots it down and runs it south with Ted Ginn. Multi-MVP Luke Kuechly trips on a dodge of all things and niggles himself, which the rent-a-doc fails to fix. Collins makes a good dodge blitz on Ginn, stunning him, but trips trying to close in on the ball. Carolina fouls out Collins and tries to secure. They go for another foul before picking up Ginn or the ball and the score is suddenly in doubt. Cleveland fails the return pick up though and a blodge lineelf makes some slick moves, picking up, double GFI, dodging through a TZ and throwing in a TZ to Ginn for the TD. 1-1 at the whistle.

Clutch moment of the game: Brees skull rolled blitzed that could have been a TD for Cleveland leading to a 2-0 or 2-1 win.

MVP of the game: Hardy, for threshing the elves and keeping the numbers where Cleveland needed them.
