I'm not sure on this one...........I've heard something like this somewhere before. South American world cups maybe?

On the whole I think they're ok, but it's a bit too much. Possibly someone can write some tunes they can do or something, so you can hum/vevublasa (orwhat ever) along at home!

I think they sound a bit like an annoyed insect. In fact my wife thought that a bee was trapped in our living room curtains during the South Africa - Mexico game, until I pointed out it was the plastic horns.

Love the pic, Piekko.

What a terrible article - clearly written by someone who has never watched football ("soccer") before in their lives. Can the Americans really not find ANYONE who knows anything about the sport?

He's dead right about the vuvuzelas though.

That is my point. Americans struggle to understand the game in the first place (i.e. no scoring means nothing happening). The vuvus just add to the dilemma.

Though i like South Africa and also my betting tips favor SA,
the only way of getting a few minutes without Uwe Seeler, is to score goals against South Africa.

If the FIFA doesn't forbid the Uwe Seelers, they could give South Africa more matches, and the opposing team should be able to field 30 players to score many goals against them Smile

Why did they choose german fans? Ah... right. The horn's called Uwe Seeler.

wow...nice inaccurate stereotyping...

it's pretty stupid to take Rick Reilly's comedic viewpoint on sports and act like that's the standard understanding of soccer by all Americans....

Reilly's articles are constantly, and intentionally, skewed for a laughter perspective...what part of that article did you not grasp as being written simply for a chuckle and a lighter view on the World Cup?

while, yes, there are people in America that don't understand soccer....there's plenty of people in soccer dominant countries that don't understand the game...

not following, or understanding, soccer is not isolated to being an American trait....

Sheesh... why is so dificult for North Americans to be a little tongue-in-cheek about our football (soccer) ignorance? Besides, this thread was started about the annoying horns anyway. Obviously, all Americans are not ignorant. And yes, Reilly's collumn is comdeic and stereotypical (a ton of comedy involves stereotyping of course). The reason the stereotype exists, however, is because there are a ton of examples in the U.S. who fit the stereotype.

Ugh.

Obviously, I am watching the games if I brought up the vuvus, etc.

Serious *ick* on the H8 fellas.

Congratulations on flaming your own thread and condemning it to 8 pages of off topic fighting. I wonder what topics we'll cover this time?

I don't mind them; although I think it's a shame we miss out on the singing.

Yesterday's game between Mexico and France was great for two reasons - there's the obvious attraction of seeing a team that shouldn't even be there show why they shouldn't be there, and you could actually hear the Mexican crowd. It was almost like watching an actual football match again.
