That said, I love what I have seen of the stadia and balls. They add a fun, wacky element that (as stated before) will probably end up getting lost in the sauce of turn 3/half 1.

I find that amusing because, as far as I can see, that is all direct reprinted from 2016 rules.

All of these new things are optional for your league environment. We had multiple spike's with new balls, pitches and inducements ever since 2016. Almost none of them made their way to fumbbl and i don't recall people whining about them breaking bloodbowl for the past five years either.

but whiners will whine and exaggerate as usual

We don't know what is optional or not yet. It looks like mercs are not optional and are considered part of core league rules, which isn't gonna be good! However lets wait and see to make sure. hopefully all this stuff is listed as optional extras like much of it was in 2016 edition.

Well the good news is in. Every section of the new deathzone book has a paragraph saying these rules are strictly optional extras and in the case of mercs says can be instead of the normal merc rules if you wish.

In short. The entire book can be ignored. Which is great news !

It looks like the mercenary rules are a way to handle the BB16 and crp star players. Using those you can build a lot of the cheaper ones since they just have a couple of skills and stat changes or a secret weapon.

I guess that makes more sense than making rules for models which Forgeworld are never going to be able to keep up with.

Here's a strange one: if you build a Ball & Chain Merc, can you reduce PA and AG to make them cheaper?

As written yes. You can also reduce AV since they do not use that either (edit) in most games.

I do think you can only reduce them by -1 each as no cost is given for a -2 modifier.

Some interesting looking little inducements there. Nice review Lyracian.

They don't use AV often, but sometimes they do. For example when they get stabbed or hit by a chainsaw.

Thanks for the review, Lyracian.

Well, I kind of like it. League commisionors and TOs can pick and choose or houserule. If I had not all of the Spikes I would have bought it. I will wait if I need the rules, depending if and when Tabletop is running again.

You are correct like many sweeping statements there are some edge cases where it does not apply.

Glad you liked it. I mainly picked it up because I did not buy the Spikes and our tabletop league rule is you need to have the actual book for any inducements you want to use in a game.
