Southern Wastes League, The Great Clerical Error!
Now that FUMBBL is officially 2020 in 2021 the time has come for the Southern Wastes League to adapt to these changing times as well.
Something seems to have gone wrong with the numbers though and as a result every team has to start out fresh. The legacy of the great teams remain but the playing field is now level for the third time in SWL's storied history.
Essentially, there has never been a better time to join the SWL!
The Southern Wastes League is a league operating around Australian Eastern Standard Time and most, but not all, games are played during Australian Primetime, i.e. Evenings +10 GMT.
This means that we're mainly looking for coaches that are available for matches during these times, but if you're in another timezone (like me) and can make it work around your schedule you're definitely welcome even if you aren't a fair-dinkum Aussie (also like me).
Two important differences from vanilla BB20:
In SWL, you have to draft your team, what this means is that you send a list of teams that you want to play to our admin account: swladmin
After which you will be allocated a team to play. What team you're allocated depends on the balance between Bash, Hybrid, Scoring teams, perhaps better known as the Rock/Paper/Scissors/Dynamite format as well as a racial limit for the most popular teams. More details on this can be found in the league page.
SWL has been using a rebuy system since BB16 and we will strive to keep the rebuy-limit at a similar size to what it was in BB16. For full details on agent fees and fundraising in SWL BB20, see the announcement on this topic in the SWL discord.
So if you're looking for the (in my slightly biased opinion) best league on FUMBBL, you've definitely come to the right place!
If you want to join the SWL or if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to send me or swladmin a pm on FUMBBL or hit me or any of the other league administrators up on discord!

Season LXXXIX
- Schedule
First round will begin on Monday the 18th of October with a round 7 deadline on the 13th of December.
- Structure
We will have as many conferences of 8 teams as we can fill up in the first season with the 8 best performing teams being promoted to The Premiership and a few of the worst performing teams being demoted to the regionals where new and redrafting teams will end up in following seasons.
New Rules
Recently Implemented
- BB20!
Please refer to the guide on the league's page.
General Reminders
- Axing
PM to the swladmin FUMBBL account by 10pm Monday SWL (Sydney) time if your game has not yet been played.
- General
Please be aware that we rely on individual coaches to be active in checking this forum, arranging games against opponents and in communicating with Admins. The responsibility is on the coach to enquire, not the Admins to inform. Please feel free to ask any questions, anytime.
- Communication
Please respect each others time and reply to PMs in a timely manner.
- BB20 Rule Amendments
We will endeavour to maintain our rules as close as possible to those of BB20 in regards to FAQ and Errata changes, taking into account the nature of our league.
Welcome all the new and returning coaches, good luck for the season!
Player's pay packets misplaced, team registrations lost, broadcasting fees gone missing. Who exactly was this cleric? Rumours are pointing toward the new hire but I would like to refute these claims, it was definitely not my fault and even if it did happen to be my fault I blame the lackluster employee training. |

Reposting from the discord, for those wondering, and of course, all the leagues who will look to copy the most excellent leadership of the SWL, as they have for 15 years now.
Seasons in BB20 SWL
Brand new teams will start at 1.1 million cash for LXXXIX, and we're looking into changes to the trial of blood starting again for XC to bring them up to scratch too.
We're going for a similar average lifespan on players, and skills on the teams, as we've had in our custom BB16 seasons. This means building a team for the Premier division, over a season or three, rising from the Regional divisions, through the Conferences where most teams live, but not needing any longer than that to be fully competitive up there.
Agents Fees
Players with three or less seasons played in (for any number of games) are free of extra costs to redraft at the end of those seasons.
After that, the fees begin and increase, no WTR rolls, same for everyone. Player's agents add a compounding 15k per season thereafter to each older player's price.
15k after season 4.
30k after season 5.
45k after season 6.
60k after season 7, and so on.
So if you want to build a powerful legend or two to compete with some of the cheaper star players on offer, there's about the same time and space for it as we've had in BB16.
This will all be handled by fumbbl (and the admin crew as needed), and your new teams include your running rebuy total at the bottom right.
Fundraising
We expect premier teams to start a season at something like 1600 TV. Conference teams will be around 1500 TV, and Regionals teams around 1400 TV, give or take for wild parties thrown by your team staff when your back's turned.
The formula is mostly default BB20, 1000k base, 20k per game, 20k per win, 10k per tie, plus your team's end of season Treasury after you ready the team, and lastly you'll get your SWL Channel BB broadcasting fees for the next season once everyone signs up to play, which are 50k if returning to Reggies, 100k returning to Confs, and 150k for making Prem.
Team Treasuries and Expensive Mistakes
Our treasuries remain somewhat tighter than default, but made up for with between-season Broadcasting fees. Just means you don't have to save up all season, last three games should do the trick nicely. Expecting teams to save to about 240k end of season, but that's up to the coaches and a bit of Nuffle's blessings.
100k+, 1 is minor, 2+ is fine.
150k+, 1-2 is minor, 3+ is fine.
200k+, 1 is major, 2-3 is minor, 4+ is fine.
250k+, 1-2 is major, 3-4 is minor, 5+ is fine.
300k+, 1 is catastrophic, 2-3 is major, 4-5 is minor, 6 is fine.
350k+, 1-2 is catastrophic, 3-4 is major, 5-6 is minor.
Chaos All-Sorts
Next time these boys show up in SWL, everyone best watch out, liable to be another major clerical error in everyone's future. |

Evening, Folks.
Check your fumbbl homepage for teams under
League teams for Southern Wastes League
If you have any, skill and ready them if they aren't already, and apply them to the SWL Fringe at
https://fumbbl.com/p/group?op=view&group=2533&p=teams
for us, down the bottom in a drop-down menu, might help to have a couple tabs open to keep track if you have a lot of 'em.
Cheers, all. Saves us breaking teams when we switch to a BB20 ruleset, and lets us keep the tournaments on the old league page, and lets all those teams play in any Fringe tournaments that anyone wants to run (which, well, there's plenty of southern league side action these days, eh).
We'll need all new BB20 teams after we throw the ruleset switch, which will happen on Draft night, 13th Oct. Teams made before that, well, they're still BB16, but can be deleted from the new teams stage without using up the name or anything, so a nice way to hold a name in the meantime. |

Big Draft in a couple days now. Wednesday the 13th, 5pm SWL time, live on the discord. Got your draft list into Wozzaa?
--
BB20 teams, will be interesting see what options everyone takes with 1100 starts, might be worth a preview once we get the divisions up and have a close look at it. Back to random MVPs, but chosen secondary skills, and chose to get random stats that mostly come up +MA.
Slightly less deaths, way more Niggles.
Hot tips on the new/better/worse skills.
- Animal Savagery: like Bloodlust, but at the start of your action, and 4+ if not blocking/blitzing.
- Arm Bar: Like MB vs people who fail to dodge away from you.
- Brawler: You can RR one BD on a block action, 3+ for a push as good as loner.
- Defensive: Opponents in contact can't use Guard on their team turn.
- Foul Appearance: completely stops the whole blitz action.
- Hail Mary Pass: is terrible.
- Iron Hard Skin: negates Claw.
- Kick: if you have no one in the backfield, you can use kick off the line.
- Kick Team-Mate: works mostly like old TTM.
- Leap: It's worse odds into 3 or more TZs, like a tight cage.
- On The Ball: like Kick-Off Return and Pass Block in one.
- Pro: It's 3+, but only on your activation, so no more Pro catches.
- Piledriver: uses your foul action after a block, and you can get sent off the same way.
- Safe Pair of Hands: when you get knocked down with the ball, you can place it where you want.
- Shadowing: is terrible.
- Sneaky Git: Ignore doubles on the armour roll always, and move after the foul. It's good!
- Throw Team-Mate: can throw prone stunties, and they bounce! Can hit multiple players by scattering on them!
- Unchanelled Fury: this is Wild Animal.
Bombs, Saws, and Vomits don't end your turn on a fail (unless you spill the ball), which is nice for Goblins, and Helmut.
And the passing skills in general, all seem pretty bad. But, Cannoneer with a 2+ PA position and +PA for 1+ base passing is very good and a lot of teams can now get that godly 2/2/2/3 passing, if you can roll +PA on your thrower's stat roll.
+ST and +AG are very rare, and even more rare in combination or doubled up. Look after these guys if you get one, because the league won't see many of them.
Oh, and the inducements are different, you can't see what they get before you get yours, and you can top up without giving them any money. If you're 30k under and want to spend 50k total, it just costs 20k! Easy to burn your treasury though, so keep an eye out, especially late season when trying to save.
And do save for a few games late season, eh. Winnings are big, especially starting with a bit of extra Dedicated Fans, or if you can score a few TDs in a game, or both! So last three games should earn you nearly 240k, which is fairly safe to ready on after game 7.
Check the group page should be up to date with all the latest rules and helping hints. |

Highest rate of playing in prem per season.
--by roster through BB16 SWL.
37% Lizardmen: 13/35. (1 title)
34% Undead: 11/32. (1 title)
30% Wood Elf: 12/40. (4 titles)
29% Chorfs: 11/38. (4 titles)
28% Orc: 12/43. (1 title)
27% Skaven: 11/41. (2 titles)
26% Necro: 10/39. (2 titles)
24% Dwarf: 7/29. (1 title)
24% Unders: 5/21.
23% High Elf: 9/39. (1 title)
19% Dark Elf: 7/36. (1 title)
19% Norse: 8/42.
17% Khemri: 4/24.
15% Chaos: 5/33.
11% Vamps: 1/9.
9% Ogres: 1/11.
8% Human: 3/36.
8% Amazon: 2/26.
6% Nurgle: 2/35.
4% Pact: 1/23.
4% Pro Elf: 1/23.
This includes shorter lived teams that may not have had time to get there, but sticking with a team is part of making prem.
The prem that never was would've featured Chorfs, Lizards, Woodies, HElfs, Dorfs, Zons, Pact, and Undead, giving them a small bump, but not changing the order all that much.
--
50 coaches for the season, couple stragglers on making teams.
Latest of late drafts would need to be pretty quick, kicking off tonight, Norse or Renegades available for very, very, very late draft. |
