"You have offered me war, and I have accepted. Nothing more. I will not regret your losses. I will not bow my head before your funeral pyres. I will not rejoice at your triumphs. But I have taken the wager. I will suffer with you. I will put Fanim to the sword, and drive their wives and children to the slaughter. And when I sleep, I will dream of their lamentations and be glad of heart."

Create established league:
https://fumbbl.com/help:CreateLeague
Set Group type to League.
Set Ruleset Id to 4 for standard rules.
For non-standard rules create your own ruleset.
https://fumbbl.com/help:Rulesets
Tell coaches to create teams from the "Create team for this league" link on the league' home page.
They can add as many players as they can afford.
You as admin can then edit the teams to award more gold and set fan factor.
Coaches can then add players, RRs, apoths etc.
Then you will need to come back and add the extra skills for the players.
Also, set gold to the correct value.

If you want a regular league, try Isle of Misfit Teams or the big one CIBBL.
If you like ad hoc tournaments, sign up at Secret League Open to be informed when new tournaments are recruiting.
The Rookie Rumble accepts new, zero games played teams.
The Brawls are for teams that have already played games.
Teams that are bigger still have the Shield
Everyone should have a go at the [SL]UMBBL Cup and the Stunty Cup.

Going down one side isn't wrong as long you don't get hemmed in.
People will often feint down one side to try to draw the defence out of position then switch to the centre or other side.
If it is obvious that you are committing everything to one side the defence can commit everything to stop you.
If they fear the cut back they need to be more spread and balanced.
You have eight turns to score so you can be patient and prod and probe the defence to try to create an opening.
If you remove more of their players it will get a bit easier. If they remove more of yours, it will get a bit harder.
But "keep an eye on the clock". You need to have enough players in scoring range by the end of turn seven or you are not going to score.
You don't have to rush to the end zone. You can spend a few turns just probing and bashing your opponent. But you have to be aware when the turns are running out and you need to start making some progress.
One player alone probably isn't going to be enough. They can blitz that guy and take him down. If he is at the edge of scoring range, just pushing him back will be enough.
Two might not be enough if they can take down one and heavily mark the other. But at least it's a chance.
If you have the opportunity to get through/past the defence early, consider whether you can protect the ball. Don't just leave the ball carrier hanging on their own, they'll just get taken down. Can you get enough players through the gap to cage/screen up.
Will you be able to stall out the half? You want to go in 1-0 at half time.
If you break through in turn three and score in turn four, the opponent will have five turns to respond. They will usually be happy with that.
They'll want to go in 1-1 at the half. Score on their own H2T8 and leave you just one turn to try to equalise.
"Controlling the clock" is a big part of the game. When to do what will come with experience.
