i need a netbook
i play mainly via pc. But for my holiday i want to buy a cheap netbook. Currently the Lenovo IdeaPad S205 is in my favour. The cheap version comes with freedos the expensive version with win7. Do i need windows to play bbowl? or can i buy the cheaper version and use another free system like ubuntu?

Any thoughts welcome

I think you can play with anything that can run java.
But I'm not a tech expert.

If you can get Java running it should be alright.
The main concern is screen size though: your screen must support at least 800x768 to display the full FFB client and avoid fun issues like "Why can't I chat?!"

im in favour with this device because it has larger display as the usual netbooks. It should be able to show the client

Wasn't the minimum requirement 1024x768 (XGA)?

yeah i think so. This device has 1300x768

I play on Ubuntu all the time. It should be fine, but if you are very accustomed to windows it may take some getting used to. Installing Java and then getting it associated with the ffb download are a couple of things that might trip you up. All in all though it works great.

If you do get it, and are having trouble, post in the forum, and some linux users will surely help you. Or PM me if you want.

FUMBBL and FFB work on Ubuntu. There are some things you may need to do to remove a weird bar at the bottom of the client, and you may need to fiddle around a bit to have the client fit on 768 pixels high, but it does work.
