I am also interested in the Mean Average Team - that is of course a team with an equal number of casualties for and against. Any takers?

I believe that the structure would go that few teams win and most teams lose more than half of their games, if losing teams get stopped or retired by their coach. Small world phenomenon, was it?

Oh, and I would hypothesise also that for most coaches their friends are on average better coaches than themselves, but this could be counted out to know for sure if it is true or false.

(One's friends usually have more friends than one itself... Math is not straightforward.)

Excellent insight from uuni. If I have understood this right on average the average team wins and an over average amount of games because on average teams who perform below average retire, thus affecting the overall average. I see we may need to develop a weighted average, or average average if you will to compensate for this average phenomenom!

akaRenton, Ogres and snotlings never struck me as averagey sorts, obviously in the right hands they have more potential for mediocrity than I realised!

I suppose it really depends on what you mean by average. ;)

I'd say that most Box teams only play one game. And they lose it.


On a straight mean (which the stats guys will probably tell you is meaningless) you are looking at 12 games. Which is strange as I was pretty sure it was 10. Has that changed since the scheduler fix?

So, you looking for a team that went 0/0/1 or maybe 5/2/5 depending on how you look at it.

Or you could say whatever you like and claim "lies, damn lies..." :twisted:

Kam, love your idea that the average team only ever draws (or ties for my friends 'over the pond'). I would be made up to hear of any team with a 0/x/0 record. Imagine if there had ever been a team that got to 0/10/0!

koadah, thanks for clarifying that the mean average is in fact 12, not 10. (for frack sake Jimmy - get it right!), however there is no need to resort to childish punnery with the word 'mean' - that sort of infantile behaviour has no place on this thread.

P.S. Still waiting to hear about the best Mean Average team - i.e. that team with the highest Cas For = Cas Against record.

Don't blame Jim. I said it. I'm pretty sure was 10 last time I looked. But that was a while ago. The figure 5 also came from somewhere. Probably VoodooMike. But that was probably calculated in a way far too complicated for a mere mortal like myself.

Fair enough koadah, I don't mean to name and shame, but there is a rumour going around that Jimmy is always right, but as far as I can see, on average his comments may not be as meaningful as people think. I have been asking around and me, Dian and the rest are not convinced. Mo, Dal and some of his mates are on his side, but me, Dee and Oker know some pretty average use of statistics when we see them. But hey - I'm not trying to start on anyone - perhaps we can find some middle ground.
