DLE Season 3 Wolfsbach Scimitars recap and awards
A dismal season came to an end in Wolfsbach that saw the Scimitars fall to a woeful 2-1-13 record. The team was bouncing from one massive personnel loss to another in the early parts of the year and had lost hope in the final stretch as they limped home. The only real bright spot at the end of the tunnel was the eventual development of some inexperienced players and the fact that they would come up with the third overall pick and subsequently flip that for a combination of picks.

So the draft has come and gone, the team is restocked and full of different players for coach Kyle O'Walsh to find a winning combination. The team is in a much more solid position that they were 16 games ago, even with the losses they suffered at the hands of pretty much half of the league. The roster has a more veteran feel to it and hopefully will last a little longer together than the Season 3 one did.

At the end of each season, we have the team awards and without further ado let me introduce the Season 3 Wolfsbach Scimitars Award ceremony featuring stats prepared by the Larsson Rating committee!

The Larsson Rating explained:
The crack team of analysts have spent countless nights rewatching replay tape from all of the Scimitars sophmore season. The product of all their effort and genius was a simple looking but deviously complex formula that combines all elements of a players in game performance. This formula goes deeper that the Game Box Score, deeper than how may passes or casualties a guy puts up. It pulls in every little ounce of effort and scores a player on all of his successes or fails and how important they may be.

Burn 3 rerolls but still get that casualty? You'll be punished for that compared to someone who gets it without the reroll help. Sack the ball carrier and force a fumble? That will get you bonus points over someone who successfully blocks any old player. Force a turnover by a failed dodge? Great tackle young man, have some more points on your performance....

You get the idea here, no stone left unturned and no expense spared in putting together all of this info and finding a way to streamline it down to just one number....Let me introduce you to the Wolfsbach Scimitar's Larsson Rating!

So named because it takes into account all possible factors a player can fail or achieve at to give them a game by game performance rating.... out of 10.0!

So, without further ado, here is the statistical breakdown of the Scimitars' players who have shone as highlighted by the Larsson Rating:

Team MVP: Brandon Thompson - With the poor performance of the team comes poor individual performances but one constant throughout the season was the effort of Brandon Thompson. Last years Larsson MVP followed up with another team best year. His consistency throughout the season brought an overall rating of 6.76 which equated to an overall positive grade despite being penalised for losing 13 times this year. His total of 93 assists was second on the team and his ability to be a nuisance and a danger led to him successfully causing 5 turnovers through tackles. He also registered his first career sack and forced fumble in a tough game against the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Flashfurt Universe. The obvious leader in the Lineman room and former first round pick will want to inspire better performances from his colleagues going forward and the only way is up for the team right now.

Fans MVP: Juron Criner - Juron was the leading light on offense for the Scimitars this year. His 15 receptions captured the imaginations of the fans and his connection with both Chad Pennington and Matt Scott led him to an offense leading, devilish 6.66 Larsson Rating. He racked up over 40 yards after the catch (71 total receiving yards), doing a lot of his work with the ball in his hands. He was the one player the Scimitars relied upon to carry the ball for the longest amount of time as he spent 16 turns in possession, was perfect on dodges and go for its. He even chipped in with 30 assists which for a catcher, is again a team high but unfortunately his collection of receptions only translated in to two total touchdowns in a year where the Scimitars struggled to score consistently (14 TD over 16 games). Nonetheless the fans chant his name and will be expecting big things from the big possession receiver!

Sports Writers MVP: Jason Taylor - Taylor once again has torn through the opposition ranks and caused a world of hurt. The media have lapped it up and the Larsson rating does show him as the player with the highest overall positive score but when his score is accounted for in line with numbers of turns played and the position he plays (Blitzers are expected to perform better than linemen for example and must work harder for a higher rating) he clocks in at a disappointing 6.27 on the Larsson rating. This season was a little different for JT. He started off on fire, causing three key casualties against the Akendorf Griffins but before he could register again, he took numerous casualties, one eventually resulting in his mobility being reduced against Marienburg. He did close out the season with a run of casualties and finished on a high with another treble against key divisional rivals the Razorbacks, contributing to a roster trimming that potentially saw them lose their chance at a Superbowl berth. JT had a 68% takedown rate on blocks and blitzes and around a 50% armour break rate which contributed heavily to his final blocking grade. He was the biggest utiliser of team training, eating up 13 rerolls though, and this caused his overall rating to take a hit along with the 5 turnovers from failures that he was involved in. JT is just another veteran that needs to up his game in Season 4 and the club are hoping the step he has lost from the injuries wont hold him back.

Posthumous MVP: Demario Davis - Davis is the first on this list from the Season 3 draftees and it is unfortunate that we bring him up in this circumstance. His contribution to the team over the first few weeks of the season was enough to win him TWO MVP of the week awards for the Scimitars. Unfortunately his career only lasted 4 games as he was cruelly retired after a nasty injury caused by the crowd against Flashfurt. Highlighting Davis' short career was his overall rating of 7.58! As he only played a handful of games, he was not eligible for the bigger MVP awards but you can tell from the involvement he had in his first four games that he would have easily gone on to be a star. 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 3 crowd pushes from the young second round pick spoke to his potential that was cruelly snuffed out early on. With this award we hope that Demario will feel appreciated by the team and organisation.

Rookie of the Year: Neville Hewitt - Normally this award would be reserved for a player who had entered the team through the draft. Normally, because players entering the team through the draft are of an expected skill level and calibre. Unfortunately at this point 5 players from the Season 3 draft class (of 7 total) have died, been retired or traded away and analysts are close to calling the class a bust. So Neville was a walk on in the team during a time of suffering and he brought a little joy to the team. Neville's impact was felt over the last 5 games of the season as he posted a 6.61 Larsson score. Contributing to this was his above average take down rate of 65% and 57% armour break resulting in three tasty casualties. He achieved this without ever spending a Team Reroll and even found time to contribute a turn end caused by a well time trip on a dodger. There's more to come from Neville and the team will be looking for him to fulfill his potential.

Dunce Award: Ryan Miller - D'oh! Ryan Miller brings home the most stereotypical award for an Ogre. He more than earned the Dunce Award this season and severely underperformed in relation to his talent level. 3 casualties in 16 games and barely a 56% knockdown rate/27% armour break backed up by 9 turnovers and 5 team rerolls used all paint a very bleak picture for what should be the most reliable Ogre the team has seen. Even his team high 100+ blocking assists could not help him and when you compare his performance with that of the lesser talented Alameda Ta'amu in Season 2 it makes for extremely depressing analysis. Improvement badly needed and Ryan is lucky he didn't find himself replaced by some of the superstar Ogres in the draft.

So there you have it DLE fans, a quick rundown of the highs and lows on the Scimitars' players from DLE Season 3. What will we see from each of them when they face off against the Talabheim Sluggers on the 13th July? All welcome to come and find out!

This is awesome! And I don't think this was a quick rundown. Must have taken a lot of time to make this. The in-dept writing shows it all. Great read!

Top notch fluff! Great thing. Keep on doing it.
Can we maybe have the overall score of all 16 players of your team?

Interesting thought frshmn. Question is where to publicise it? On player bio?
