Re: What are the odds?
A response to Zeke's blog What are the odds?.
Well here are the odds of a specific player getting killed by a thrown rock (WITH apo fail) on a kickoff:
1/18: 'throw a rock' result
1/2: lose or draw FF roll (approximately, assume even FF)
1/11: rock targeted at that player (assuming 11 were setup, would be slightly less than this on avg)
1/36: injury is a kill
1/6: apothecary is a quack

So the chances are 1 in 85,536.

Now, assume there are on average 4 kickoffs per match (so just 2 TDs scored). Then the chance of that specific player dying to a rock (with you saving the apo just for him and just in case of a rock) are 1 in 21,384 for every game he plays. For comparison the chances of rolling double skulls, rerolled for more double skulls is 1 in 1,296 and we've all seen that happen!
Play just 17 games with a player and his odds of dying to a thrown rock are higher than rolling those 4 skulls :)
