Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #2; Issue #8

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= GAMEWEEK 8 ROUND-UP =
Now that the league has moved into the second phase, teams will get to face their Divisional rivals and those from another division in the race to secure the best position before the play-offs.

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
As the league progresses, more and more players are putting their heads above the parapet to show that the best franchises might have an official Marquee Player but many stars on the pitch at one time:
10 SPP - Krakka-Gor (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)
7 SPP - Skogg Eargrinda (Mount Gunbad Big 'Uns); ★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ (Altdorf Bloodhounds); Vaggit & Vittag Grotstikka (Grom Peak Scrappers); The Throngler (Iron Crag Clawz)

= CASUALTIES =
An unexpected winner of this week's casualty list with a season high which matches the GDR record from last season:
3 casualties - Krakka-Gor (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)
2 casualties - Skrog Beastmaster (Nordland Skullsmasherz)

= BLOCKS =
Grash Bonechewer continues to push out his career blocks with his fourth win in this category, surpassing Head Stompa the Fourth's three wins:
14 blocks - Grash Bonechewer (Badlands Black Feathers)
13 blocks - Tharku 'Eadsmasha (Bretonnian Brutes)
12 blocks - Arm Snapper (Averland Bat-Squigs); Krakka-Gor (Drakwald 'Ardboyz); Kruk Elfmuncher (Bretonnian Brutes)

= TOUCHDOWNS =
Mudshredda now has an incredible 10 touchdowns in 7 games, closing in on Orzog Shugdurbam's 11 touchdowns record - can anyone stop him?:
2 touchdowns - ★ Dazlug Mudshredda ★ (Altdorf Bloodhounds); Vaggit & Vittag Grotstikka (Grom Peak Scrappers)

= FOULS =
The race for the foulest fouler of all players continues to be a tight race:
4 fouls - Slugg Bonekrakka (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)
3 fouls - Skogg Eargrinda (Mount Gunbad Big Uns); Borgu Flingbone (Dragonback Squigs); Rukzit the Menace (Averland Bat-Squigs)

= RUSHING YARDS =
A more modest week in distances covered, with some tightly contested games:
24 yards - Dribb Toofspitta (Tilean Sea Piratz); ★ Zagh Slugweava ★ (Estalia Gutrippers)
23 yards - ★ Kragtoof Bloodspitta ★ (Bretonnia Brutes)
22 yards - Orzog Shugdurbam (Nordland Skull Smasherz); Gabriella Boaldelr (Iron Crag Clawz); ★ Krenko King of the Goblins ★ (Mount Gunbad Big Uns)

= PASSING YARDS =
A new one game record set, after last week's barren spell, beating the previous record, held by Indestructible - perhaps the Clawz aren't the only team making the aerial game work for greenskins:
13 yards - Urbag Trollthrottla (Altdorf Bloodhounds)
6 yards - ★ Krenko King of the Goblins ★ (Mount Gunbad Big Uns)
5 yards - Thugbo Skulltaker (Karak Norn Crusherz)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there will be awards for some notable players and coaches:

MVP
With new records set by players this week, it was hard to choose but what would this league be if it wasn't for blocking? Some elf-based nonsense, that's what! It has to be Krakka-Gor who matched the all-time league record for casualties in one game.

Golden Clipboard
Rijssiej (Nordland Skull Smasherz)
Coach Rijssiej's persistent success at earning SPP for his players - 19 against the Crusherz and the 3rd time he has featured in this category this season - may lead to some reconsideration of how best to award this gong. Another brilliant performance by the Smasherz, with 5 players being involved in decisive actions, and the team that won last season's GDR South Division are in a real battle to win the Gork North Division this season.

Best Result
SoyeSaucy (Tilean Sea Piratz)
MATCHSCORESCORERS
Tilean Sea Piratz1D. Toofspitta
Karak Azgaraz Fanatics0--
The Piratz have lacked consistency this season and had not beaten an opponent on the field since gameweek 2, when they overcome Karak Norn Crusherz 1-0 at The Shrimp Bowl. Yes, it may have required a hell of a lot of luck. Yes, Nuffle was certainly not with Coach RobinFern on the day. But "Dazzling" Dribb Toofspitta finally lived up to his name and in a game of fine margins (one pass, just 39 rushing yards, one foul, no player with more than 8 blocks), one player having everything go right is often all that a coach needs.

= IN MEMORIAM =
For every winner, there must be a loser and, to give them their (final) moment in the limelight, we recognise those players who left us this week:

None! Whilst the coaches might breathe a sigh of relief, won't they think of the poor funeral directors, coffin makers, grave diggers, and bouquet arrangers whose families will go to bed on an empty stomach this week?
