“Warpstone Open XIII Qualifier VII - Round 3

This match started off on a high note, with a fan Riot!, and as any dwarf hater will tell you, lessening the number of turns dwarves have to march down the pitch is always a good thing. But the Witches Brew we had purchased turned out to be a dud, and a Black Orc was seriously injured on the opening block of the match. That was a quick turn around. The rest of the first half was orc defense, highlighted by one crucial bomb throw by Bomber Dribblesnot which prevented the dwarves from scoring. Bomber also had a rather unorthodox bomb throw, which thanks to an assist by Cutting Board, resulting in an injury, which was healed by the dwarven apothecary.

Second half, orcs on the offensive, fully recovered, and playing 11-on-11. Made some poor choices and the dwarves quickly boxed us in. Whisk paid the ultimate price, before we were able to answer back with a nasty concussion on a dwarf blocker. We kept the ball away for as long as we could before rushing forward into a safe position. Or at least we though it was safe, until a ST4 Break Tackle player ruined our assumption. The ball came loose, but somehow Spatula was able to catch the ball on a bounce, even under double coverage. He than made an amazing series of dodges (6,5,6) in an attempt to clear the ball free, all before tripping over his own two feet. Try as they might, the dwarves could not recover the loose ball, and try as they might, the orcs kept getting sent to the knocked out section on their dugout. At the end the dwarves attempt a pass to a covered played within range of the endzone, but the pass went astray. So, we were going into Overtime.

The orcs won the cointoss in Overtime and elected to receive. When a block stalled our momentum the dwarves capitalized, putting heavy pressure on the ball. But the full commitment left them in an unfavorable position when Mug got the ball and was able to skirt past them on the wide zone. The dwarves gave chase, but could not keep up. Mug dashed off and secured the victory.


Well played, pythrr, and this match could have easily gone either way. The 100k worth of inducements spent on babes was easily worth 300k, and truly saved us.
