In 1994, Robert Lepage and his collaborators created a new collective. His only condition was that the name did not contain the word "theater." Hence Ex Machina was born, blending theater, danse, music, video, cinema, painting, multimedia, architecture, circus, science and beyond, from Québec to the Vortex, bypassing Montréal, because Montréal sucks.

The Old Québec Machine is the most natural extension of this artistic quest.
