Quest for greatness, step 1: Pie!
My peak as a bloodbowl coach was probably somewhere in 2004-2005 before I started at university. After that I have only played on fumbbl sporadically without performing nearly as well as I did back then when playing consistently. In my blog entries I will try to write down everything I learn from my opponents and therefore work myself into being a good bloodbowl coach again.

But first of all, it's time for pie. As we all know, unfunny pie comments are a long running gag on fumbbl. What people tend to forget is that pie also make excellent food for an ambitious bloodbowl coach. The most time consuming parts of making a pie consists of the pie standing in the oven while you play a bloodbowl game.

Swedish Bloodbowl integrated pie

Mandatory ingredients:
6 dl flour
250g butter
50cl water

5 eggs
5 dl milk

Some kind of filling (example 2dl pesto 300g bacon and some onion).

First mix the flour and the butter in a bowl until the mix consists of small pebbles. Then add the water and mix it so that it forms a dough. Mash out the dough on a tray (with edges to contain the filling) and put it into the fridge for 15-30 minutes to stiffen.

Next mix the egg and the milk together with the pesto, bacon and chopped onion.

It is now time to put your team on the gamefinder and start looking for a game. All the following preparations can be done while waiting for your opponents turn to end.

Take out the tray from the fridge and put it into the oven at 200C for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes which roughly corresponds to the beginning of your opponents turn 2. Take out the tray and pour the filling into it. Then put it back into the oven for andother 25 minutes in the oven.

When it's finished, take the pie out, put some tinfoil over it to protect it from alien mind control attempts and finish the game. Eat the pie as celebration after the game.

Classic noob mistake dude.

What you gone and done there is left the lid off. Almost all pies have lids.

What you have in fact made is a quiche. Or at best, a flan.

Hehe... nice spotted Purplechest...
But I have to say this in his defence:

As swedish resembles danish a lot (and no, it's not the other way around!) I guess the mistake could be made in translation.
You see in danish we only have one word for the whole pie category - tærte - which is immediately translated into ... pie!

It's all a matter of the concerns within culture and language. When you see the english and french have more words for pie it's simply because pies is a more integrated part of their culinary cultures than in scandinavia. Or like the italians who calls every shape of pasta something differently...

its a giant rabbit for god sake! the fact he can even type is purely amazing but your focusing on the fact he may not be cooking his pie correctly?

rofl at purplechest!
I'd have said it was a savoury tart meself.

Almost all pies have lids. It's just like how some coaches win almost all of their games. Some things are unusual but still happens to exist.

But Asgovic is right, in Sweden we call pretty much everything a pie. Talking about quiches would make me feel like playing for the blue team :P.

you do!

I gave it a 5 for the bacon. I would have given it a 6 except it had onion. But I do like how you worked a bloodbowl game into the making of your swedish pastry dish (pie/quiche/whatever). Maybe I could replace the onion with some potatoes and a bit of cheese.

Mmmmmmmmm.... bacon, cheese and potatoes.

I voted 5, and think Flashback13's tweak could make it a 6.

but you missed out a very important point: What are you gonna eat during the game?
Posted by Adar on 2010-01-07 22:58:39
Personally I do not eat during games, I just end up with small pieces of carrot between the keys on my keyboard.

The pesto, bacon and onion filling was an example. You can use whatever ingredients you want and I encourage you to post any ideas here so that I can try them on sunday.

...and this whole time us Yanks are thinking of pie as something sweet... or a sexual innuendo but that's always the case.
