I have a dream
that all the open play divisions are no longer segregated. Merge Ranked, Black Box, Ladder, and Faction together.
activate teams...then go to gamefinder and see if you find an opponent...those that don't find one by the clock's stroke...are paired up via black box.
Additionally, teams get ladder points so winning has another nice reward and add incentive to play more challenging teams/coaches and less emphasis on survival/attrition. Plus you get challenge points and the challenge board (a virtual wall of glove slaps)!
Furthermore, every two weeks, a coach can toss a team into the ever going auto-admin'd Faction tournament and try to earn some medals!

the coding is already there, so hopefully not too unrealistic to make happen.

The only problem is under the current set of rules tournaments would suddenly become very boring.... I can imagine entire brackets of Chaos/Nurgle/Chorfs.
Overall though I REALLY like the idea though! Going into gamefinder seems like a chore. Every time I do get a match-up I feel like I should be ashamed for picking until I look at all the other teams in there... seems like everyone has some 200 TV Elven team without a single injury or a Nurgle/CHorf team with 3 Claw POmbers! :-)

So basically a merge that would see all those who like ranked the way it is watching the count down then dropping out to avoid enforced match ups?

I would imagine you would be locked in...maybe if you drop out you lose all Star Players on a roll of 4 or more! :-) Seriously though, I think ranked as is needs to go.

No one is locked into Box as it is now. Life happens, no locking in. But this idea is worth discussing

It's kind of what I've been saying too. Ranked and Box should be merged I think. 1. To stop some of the bickering and you vs me. 2. Increase the player base looking for a game.
And the site is also crying out for incentives. Ladder points most definitely yes and proper awards that people aim to complete.
However looking at the score of the blog, doesn't look like the concepts are popular.

I'm for it and let people choose to use either gamefinder or Box matchmaker.
Although I only play Box and will continue to only use the Box scheduler, i would not mind at all playing teams that also use also the gamefinder.
Worst case i play against some cherrypickers'teams but i'm not sensible to this possibility.
Moreover i doubt it would happen often and even then i don't believe it would be a much harder game that you can find in the Box right now.
I just like the Box matchmaking scheduler better, i find it's more fun not to know which team you are going to play.

I agree that divs should be merged. If there are many people opposed to this they have been awfully silent. I don't think it would be the worst of two worlds. Almost all the disadvantages are neglectable.
That being said, the division of Box and Ranked is not a big issue either. Changing things would be irreversible. Christer has already decided on the topic. And poking at him to change every little thing some people don't agree with I'm not a fan of.

I think Ladder Faction and Box died because there wasn't anything else to do with your teams in that division. So you played 50 games and had loads of fun...the next 50, meh...the next 50...monotonous.
That's why Box is still alive. The basic concept on its own failed, but when we partially converted it over to the Ranked format with rankings, and Ranked tournaments, Box got some life back in it. It's partial conversion has already happened and still slowly but steadily occurring (latest charity to Box was to allow them to participate in Rank's XFLs) so why not go all the way now?
Why slowly convert Box to Rank? Well, possibly just a coding issue.
The problems with each division can be solved by allowing what was best of each have a synergistic effect on each other.
Don't like some Ranked team cherrypicking? Then use the ladder challenge system to challenge them to a game.
Don't like others avoiding your chaos team? Then use your ladder points to entice someone to play you.
Tired of Box cpomb teams cherrypicking you? Play a few even matched games on gf before heading back into the box. Or, go and try to win a faction medal between majors.
By allowing your teams to bounce from one to the other, all do well.

Faction was also too small. It needs to be much bigger, like box. Also they don't have to be hard set divisions. Cross division gaming should be possible (basically anything that diminishes matches is a bad idea).
