While avoiding to prepare for a midterm
Just the concept of a midterm feels strange to me, as I normally don't do US classes at all. But I digress, while avoiding preparing for a midterm, I done some serious FUMBBL-ing and arguing on the boards, and the latest distractions is:

Who to build to a sacker, as posted on my latest blog post, but that decision I can postphone until the skill is rolled.

And, how to manage the linos; I normally nowadays build W-D-SS linemen, to survive on the line; and anything that survives that or rolls something funny, like Ag+ get a different role.

This has worked out fine, and is one of the few ways I can keep DE losses down. But what is the best GENERAL path after W/D/SS (on ranked)?

Before PO, and the latest changes I would have said Jump-up, then tackle, or Tackle/DT. Jump-up is ok, but a lot less attractive if you even risk playing somebody that are allowed to reroll armour breaks.

I'm not talking about one guy, having one wrackle guy etc. but something that unless you need something specific, i.e. ceterus paribus is the better choice. Anyone got a real opinion? I assume you use developed linemen on Darkelfs, instead of kicking them off the team to keep TV down.

W, D, Fend Linemens.

I considered fend after SS, then man mark any PO opponent. That would be fend followed by diving tackle. Specialist role for sure.

I think that the reality is you'll only ever have a few that live that long so each one will end up being a specialist once they have more than 3 skills. For instance, if you put them on the line, give them fend. If not, you'll want a kicker, a diving tackler, a regular tackler (maybe with strip ball if that role isn't taken), etc. My Box dark elves have only ever been able to build one lineman that far, and I gave him fend to make him annoying for cages trying to break through my defense. I just can't see more than a handful ever making it to 51, let alone 76+.

dang, wintergreen beat me to it - for the LOS take Fend instead of SS. For the ones who do take SS, I would say take DT next. Have them protect the wide zone. Realistically you'll almost never put a 4 skill player on the LOS so there isn't much point planning for it. LOS is for 0 and 1 skill players.

I used to set up in a (reversed) wing position quite often. Now I days I tend to put up 3 guys on the line to the side (not spread out), and then everyone else in the middle responding to the opponent.

If often looks at a reversed big E for other coaches, basically my opponent can hit the line then blitz one of 3 guys, and move at will on the sidelines.

if you take PO into account, then you should get fend.

if you only play bash-free, then diving tackle and tackle.
