The new apothecary - oh, I get it now!
I've been running a Wood Elf team in the BlackBox, and only after their 4th game did I finally hire an apothecary.

My reasoning for not getting him earlier (aside from poor winnings and a desperate need for a 3rd reroll) was rooted in my LRB 4 approach to the apothecary, using it to heal permanent injuries and kills - if used thus, I'd just end up carrying the extra TV, which didn't count towards anything in-game, only the longevity of my players for future matches. In the TV dependant BlackBox, bloat is a bad thing.

Then I finally realised what the new, revised apothecary is for. It's not for keeping alive your star player, because, let's face it, he's going to make a hash of that. No, it's for getting those stars back on the pitch for that crucial last drive of a game, healing Badly Hurts and Knocked Outs. In this way, the apothecary earns his TV weight.

My Wood Elves will suffer horrendous personnel losses anyway, and for that I rejoice in the Journeyman rule (they currently have 4 for their next game) - as for the apothecary, I'm just surprised it took me this long to work out.

that's my reasoning.
the new apo works on every KO or BH 100%.
hoping for a better reroll result on that RIP will get you another RIP.

I'm with you Colin. At first I used my apo like I did in LRB4 and was CONTINUOUSLY angered by my rip apo rip results (or strangely enough, perm stat apo perm stat).

Now that I've embraced the 1st half BH or 2nd half KO apo, I'm much much much happier with how he functions.

Of course, any perm/rip player just drops my TV, so for box play thats all to the good.

yup, all i use him for now is BH occasionaly try him on a SI or worse if the player is a good one but the result is usually the same. 'do you want to change the result to killed' lol useless apoths :)
but using him on BH everytime is great especially on elf teams because that way you can get a plyer back 100% of the time for the next drive without the inflated TV of having back up players.

I've experienced a number of Apothecary fails and I think you've outlined the right way to get the best value from it.
