Obviously Fifa are big fans of Sagat.

Apparently it was a toss up between Columbia and Uruguay.

From what I gather it's based on objective criteria, like red and yellow cards. Let's see.

1. Switzerland: 3 yellow in 4 games
1. Nigeria: 3 yellow in 4 games
3. USA: 4 yellow in 4 games
4. Colombia: 5 yellow in 5 games
4. France: 5 yellow in 5 games
6. Germany: 6 yellow in 7 games
7. Algeria: 6 yellow in 4 games
8. Chile: 7 yellow in 4 games
9. Argentina: 8 yellow in 7 games
10. Mexico: 8 yellow in 4 games
11. Netherlands: 11 yellow in 7 games
12. Brasil: 14 yellow in in 7 games
13. Greece: 5 yellow and 1 yellow-red in 4 games
14. Costa Rica: 10 yellow and 1 yellow-red in 5 games
15. Belgium: 7 yellow and 1 red in 5 games
16. Uruguay: 8 yellow and 1 red in 4 games

Yeah, don't really get it. :) Still funny, tho.

Columbia played more games than the 1st place teams iirc. Think they went out the same time as USA though. Might have that wrong though.
Posted by Wreckage on 2014-07-15 18:57:07
Round of 16 they won against Uruguay. USA lost that round against Belgium. Colombia was then kicked out by Brasil in the quarterfinals in a 2:1 game.

There ya go. So in terms of minutes played they probably are the least dirty.
Posted by DeZigma on 2014-07-15 19:29:01
Well, strange is it! France has the same amount of YC and Gamese as Colombia, but about 30 fouls less commited!
Posted by FRSHMN on 2014-07-15 19:29:20
Could also be based on fouls (maybe fouls compared to tackles). Any numbers on these?
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-07-15 19:55:57
Is it to do with sponsors?

Don't forget to multiply with the NRI* score

Maybe it is the actual time that counts, not only the number of games. How often did they go into overtime?
Posted by Valen on 2014-07-16 11:38:47
Germnay got less yellow cards than games?

Minutes Played per Yellow Card:
1. Switzerland 390 mins / 3 yellow = 130 m/y
2. Nigeria 360 mins / 3 yellow = 120 m/y
3. Germany 690 mins / 6 yellow = 115 m/y
4. USA 390 mins / 4 yellow = 97.5 m/y
5. France 450 mins / 5 yellow = 90 m/y
5. Colombia 450 mins/ 5 yellow = 90 m/y
5. Argentina 720 mins / 8 yellow = 90 m/y
8. Algeria 390 mins / 6 yellow = 65 m / y
9. Greece 390 mins / 6 yellow = 65 / y (from of which one was yellow-red)
10. Netherlands 660 mins / 11 yellow = 60 m/y
11. Chile 390 mins / 7 yellow = ca. 56 m/y
12. Brasil 660 mins / 14 yellow = ca. 47 m/y
13. Costa Rica 510 mins / 11 yellow = ca. 46 m/y (from of which one was yellow-red)
14. Mexico 360 mins / 8 yellow = 45 m/y
15. Belgium 480 mins / 7 yellow / 1 red = ca. 68.8 m/y/r
16. Uruguay 360 mins / 8 yellow / 1 red = 45 m/y/r

Uruguays ratio is pretty underwhelming considering for what actions they DIDN'T see red... xD.

Intermixed the yellow-red cards with the yellow in this perspective because a longer game makes a yellow-red card more likely than a shorter game and this perspective can't really account for that.

Apparently not only your team discipline affects the fair play trophy. There is FIFA Technical Study Group who collect all sorts of data, and this has also an impact in the matter.

Arbitrary stuff like showing respect towards opponent and supporter behavior. And obviously the decision making is not very transparent, so I'll have to take this as a political decision. Political or financial... You never know what funky business FIFA is up to next.

Now i understand the name FIFA --> FInacial Football Asso. and not FAirFA
