UN-solicited Team Crafting Blog ep.2 - Paint Practice!
So before I put together my neat little metal-roman team I figured I ought to start practicing my painting skills. I have never before painted a miniature let alone used washes or anything else for that matter and knowing myself I would jump immediately from completed team to painting the heck out of them. I would much rather that look good.
I grabbed the base game teams from the box, found a fantastic and quite new ThatTube show from Geek & Sundry.

So first I based some guys with black spray paint! weeeeeeee!!!

Added some layers;
Started with Waaagh Flesh green (pretty much covered the whole mini apart from the face and hand spikes (whoops!)),
Added some Kislev flesh color to the hands, neck, and face,
Put on some Averland sunset yellow and lead belcher metal wherever it was needed.

Result:

Followed steps in the videos episodes 3 and 4 for washing (used a regular base brush as i didn't have a specific wash brush) with Agrax earthshade (brown) and got this:

Lastly attempted a drybrush with the lead belcher on the helmet and armour portions and Athel loren (light-ish) green for the leathers. Hard to see in my cruddy lighting so I held it up to something bright!

And so my first ever painted miniature... EVER! I will be practicing on all the fun little guys that came with the base set in this way and hone my skills for the one day I get to my Romans! Thanks for putting up with me!

Well congrats...now that you boasted about painting this guy he will be promptly killed on the opening block of his first game which means you must thrown him across the room, foot stomp him and then thrown him into your grill when you get home and melt him down.

I hope you feel good about your self....minis have feeling to, you know.

Painted minis get a +1 to all of their rolls.

Welcome to the painting (nerd) club.

Love it. Super solid for your first effort. I love folks getting into tabletop more... it does my heart good :)

Quick tip (and I know it's a pain in the ass because we're conditioned to want results *NOW*...) but thinning your paints and doing multiple coats will serve you better and make it more like you're coloring the sculpt than applying paint.

I'd say that thinner paints is even more important than staying "inside the lines" because you can always paint over a thin coat of paint that is a mistake.

But overall - great to see you making the toys real!! :D
