Why do I play Bloodbowl?
I was recently looking through a few old threads and blogs on the subject of winning games of Bloodbowl and how to do it.

Mostly, it all comes down to how far you are prepared to go to win... do you foul, stall, team destroy, etc. SO I thought I would offer my own view on playing.

I play to have fun. Winning is fun. Not having my players get injured or die is fun. Injuring opponents is fun. But I also think 1-turn TDs are fun, long-bombs are fun, throwing team-mates is fun, dodging into four TZs to pick up and pass when I can only succeed with a handful of 6s is fun, whether or not I manage it.

In short, I love the game and in real life I love spending time playing it with friends, beer, Coke, tortilla chips and chocolate.

But I just can't take it seriously enough to be a great coach. I'm not competitive enough to win at all costs and I really do feel sorry for my opponents when they have a dreadful game where nothing goes right for them. Sometimes I will even go so far as to play soft, or give them a chance, just to make us both feel a bit better.

This means I will never have a high coach rating, I will never win any tournaments, faction medals or other similar stuff. That's fine. None of that stuff is why I play Bloodbowl anyway.

I wish more coaches were like me, but then I also wish the game rules were a bit different and there was no such thing as fouling. Too bad. I don't have a problem with competitive coaches, vicious coaches or teams with dirty players and RSC/claw. They are doing nothing wrong and they are playing the game as it is written. Good for them. If they enjoy what they are doing, then they are getting as much out of the game as I am and that's what it's there for.

But that doesn't mean I have to play against them.

Why don't we all find the kind of matches we really enjoy playing, play them as often as we can and stop complaining because other coaches don't agree with us? There's enough of us out there to do this.
