Laptop has has failed apo roll
A few weeks back we were looking after our nieces. To keep them entertained whilst I was at work, the missus was putting Peppa Pig and Disney films on my laptop for them. Sadly in the rushing about clumsy play of kids their age the laptop was sent flying. It's managed to limp it's way this far, but now the hard drive is totally dead. I'm writing this on my wife's painfully slow laptop.

Sadly this means the contents of the HD are lost, including quite a lot of logo work etc for 145 and similar. Annoyingly I'd intended to spend this morning backing up all the pictures etc onto the image library, in case this happened.

I'll still be able to make it on for my league and cup commitments, but anything else will need some careful laptop negotiations :D

Wouldn't have happened if they had played properly... FUMBBL, for example!

Ah man, that sucks. Logos are logos but it's always good to have a laptop that works.

Perhaps we could do a crowdfunding thing for you, after all, you do so much for this site. Even if it isn't the full amount, I am sure it would go some way?

Just an idea :)

Tip: get a regen laptop next time. Works far better than apo.

Sorry for the bad news, same happened to me a while back but computer doctors were able to retrieve all data. Maybe they will be able to save yours too!

Haha, that's a very kind thought Throweck - but there's far more needy causes in the world than a vaguely middle class bloke with a broken laptop. I can cope with using the wifes until I can afford to get a new one off eBay again.

If you want, send the laptop to me and I'll stick it through file recovery software we use. Never know might get a couple of files off it (promise I won't publish the dirty stuff!)

i meant send the HDD!

Missus has very little leverage right now, so your Fumbbl time should be safe.

That is some bad news buddy. Good luck with it. 145 for the win.

Sorry about your laptop man! Would help if a donation thing started.

Glad to hear you have a backup at least.

Sorry to hear of your mishap!
Kids!
Mine are 13,11 and 9 already and friends and cousins come play all the time. Damaged toys, broken ornaments and the occasional scraped knee are regular occurrences that accompany the presence of healthy and energetic young ones. Enjoy the chaos and happiness they bring! (Just as long as they don't start dressing up your Chaos dwarf table top miniatures in Polly Pockets outfits!)

When you say dead, what does that mean? Is the drive solid state or platter? If the former, it can possibly be recovered externally, if the latter, try freezing it and then attempting to boot.

Mate, I told you: Better not going for leap without an Intel AG4 processor!!!

This is how it ends.
Posted by akaRenton on 2016-09-22 23:08:05
@ignatzami It's platter. I'll try the freezing technique, see if it helps. If you have a link on how to do that safely it'll save me trying to trawl for one on this slow ass borrowed lappy :D
Posted by akaRenton on 2016-09-22 23:12:05
Nevermind, just found one :D

I'll bear it in mind as a last resort still, but it's nearly 500GB of data so I'd be suprised if I can get it up and running long enough to get it all off.

To those that have offered financial help, whilst I am truly touched by the generosity of the offers I would feel very uncomfortable agreeing to it. It's an irritation rather than a catastrophic life event. Save that money for when someone really needs it. I'm sure I can go a couple of months without making logos etc :D

Peppa Pig is evil, that's the real culprit here.

The only post in this entire blog i fully agree with is the one right before mine.

Purplechest is right Peppa Pig is evil.
Recently ITV had a bid of £1 billion turned down to buy the rights to Peppa Pig!!! Star Wars cost Disney £2.5 billion.
Peppa Pig is a virus that must be stopped before it takes over the world

Personally I prefer Ben & Holly's little Kingdom.

I was showing my kids programmes I used to watch. Wizbit, Jase and the wheeled warriors, Ulysese, Mask, etc. They had lost interest after a while but I was hooked when I started watching Galaxy Rangers. Man I loved that programme.
Posted by FRSHMN on 2016-09-27 11:30:06
Hahaha, I have already started a collection with programmes from my childhood to show my kids: Disney's Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Ghostbusters, Marshall Bravestar, Darkwing Duck, Chip'n'Dale Rescue Rangers,...

Now I only need those kids :D
