Mordheim: City of the Damned
I've never played Mordheim in any form but the new computer game looks really fun.

Anyone with any Mordenheim experience can advise me on whether or not to get it? Or anyone bought this?

Second blog i've seen of it so far.

Ok, so the current mordheim is early release on steam and missing a lot of content.

Right now you can play as skaven or human mercs. so far the game seems fun and very pretty. there also looks like a wee bit of player vs player thats possible but i haven't been at it.

Its really fun a few times but until there is character progression I won't be playing too often.

#1 Rule of Early Access is, don't buy it unless you're willing to either take a risk, or the game appeas to be good and playable in it's current state. Either way you need to be prepared for funding to possibly dry up and the project to be abandoned, or the game direction to change.

it's got potential.

it is a fun TT game (I seem to remember). Love the warband development and injury rules.

I'm in the same boat... looks pretty but my gut instinct is saying to run like a gutter runner until more content is pushed out or the game is actually finished in a year or whatever. What we're seeing is ambition, and we all know how far that gets us...

I dont like early release because when you blow your wad prematurely you miss out on the full experience.
Posted by garyt1 on 2014-12-05 07:14:33
It was a good TT game. Not sure if it was ever quite as good as Necromunda (the sci-fi equivalent made several years earlier) but you could get into developing your warband. A bit like with a Blood bowl team so should appeal to many here.

Its not the same as the tt version. They've changed the rules. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad yet.

Mordheim was a much better game than Necromunda mechanically. Nowhere near as cool though.

Here's the original Blog Lorebass mentioned, if you wanna read some more opinions :)

I think my opinion is: Looks very nice but too expensive for an Alpha release
Posted by Garion on 2014-12-05 09:28:58
I preferred necromunda by a long way. I thought the gangs had much more personality.
Posted by mister__joshua on 2014-12-05 09:31:50
Yeah, I had (and still have, somewhere) every Cawdor model in the range :D
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-12-05 11:24:32
The gangs did have more personality but again that is just cool factor type stuffs. The game became unplayable quickly and the mission system sucked.

I don't agree completely, but I think to make it work you needed more players than we ever had. I think we only managed 3 or 4 and thus the gangs tended to sink or swim pretty quickly. With more players of a similar rating it's work fine.

This is of course all also true of Blood Bowl. If you're running an open league with 3 teams it won't be many games before they're miles apart.
Posted by Garion on 2014-12-05 12:19:57
Only if you followed the stupid LRB necromunda which made the gaem worse, if you played the core game it was fine.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-12-05 12:23:50
Having gangs with tons of individuals was just far too hard to keep track of. The henchmen and heroes thing was so much better(if people didn't game it for that lads got talent).

No harder than 2000TV Blood Bowl though? In tabletop, when you can't tag players.

@Garion: I didn't even know there was such a think as the Necromunda LRB until you just mentioned it.

I do somewhere have a copy of the Necromunda Magazine issue 1 signed by (if I'm remembering correctly) Warwick Kinrade and Andy Chambers. Got it from Gamesday years ago, back when it was good.

Far far far harder than 2k tv tt bb. Don't get me wrong, I loved it - but you have rose tinted glasses if you think it was a great game.

Mordheim was great fun in its tabletop version. The videogame looks good in its mechanics, but very much depends on the warband building side (skills, heroes...), which isn't fully implemented yet. I think it's something to keep an eye on, but I'd wait until further development to throw some money in it.

Maybe I never played a single campaign for long enough to make remembering skills a problem. I think we never got more than 5 or 6 encounters in.
Posted by Garion on 2014-12-05 13:11:30
well it obviously was never as complete as Bloodbowl has ever been. But necromunda for pick up games was the best way to play it imo.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-12-05 13:58:57
As a one off with starting gangs played in the right spirit it was fine. It was the campaign that was borked.

I've gotten the early release, and for the current content it's a bit expensive. that being said, it's a beautiful game, that fulfills my Mordheim itch, and is shaping up to be farking awesome!

Highly recommended.

The only thing that bothers me is: 4 factions out of 15. Even cyanide got closer to the actual amount races than that.

Still, I'll gladly bought it and played it. :)
Posted by WoodPusher on 2014-12-06 05:07:43
I am reaaaaally hoping they add more then the 4 factions they currently have listed on their site; but I fear that they'll do what cyanide did with a "legendary edition" type thing. The problem isn't so much that I want to use lots of different warbands, but I'd like to fight a variety.

*the previous comment only applies to the full release. early release only having two options is whatever. it's the early release after all
Posted by Mr_Foulscumm on 2014-12-06 17:09:06
Yupp, but 4 factions is the goal for the full release, which is a sad sad goal indeed.
