Woodpusher-
A deprecatory term for an amateur whose play is simplistic and unimaginative--i.e., one who is merely pushing the wood pieces around the chess board. In general, a woodpusher connotes someone who grasps the rules but has yet to grasp a meaningful degree of strategic and tactical understanding. See also patzer and fish.
