So how are the custom mercenaries supposed to work? For example a stunty. It says I can reduce stats for -10.000 (to a minimum of 30.000). Does it mean I can make 3 reductions or I can reduce stats until the player costs 30.000?

So, can I get a ball&chain for 30.000 if I reduce ag by 2, pa by 2 and av by 2? Or if I can only make 3 reductions it would be 60.000?

Or do I first need to upgrade stats and then I can reduce other ones, so my player costs a minimum of 30.000? Then I could buy the b&c for 60.000 (90.000 in total)

Sigh, more poorly written rules by GW.

I think you can reduce away all you like, with a floor of 30k

If mercenaries are that good, why hire regular players at all? Just bring a squad of 3-4 positionals, don't hire journeyman, and fill it up with induced mercenaries

Not sure, but (for example) you can't start with AG -2. You have instead to go with AG -1 and PA -1. You can't reduce twice the same stat, unless clearly specified in the mercenary archetype.
But don't quote me on that.
The wording is not clear in the official book..... a new official GW FAQ would be great about this topic.

Rulebook says you must roster at least 11 players and if needed you "will" take Journeymen to get you to 11 before you are allowed to take Stars and Mercs - unless you are playing in "Exhibition" mode

That is the way I read it. Rules say “increase or decrease by up to 2 as follows”. Some Mercs have a cost for +2 but none have a cost for -2. It is a real shame the rules are sloppy in the way they are written. Shame really as this could have a really big plus for the new edition and instead we end up with rules that few people are likely to use.

I’m attending a tournament with mercs allowed, I’m still not 100% sure if I’m doing this right, never used them before.

Can I pick a big guy, 130, pick a general skill +40(170), pick a mutation +40(210), pick AV +20(230), pick troll package -10(220), ag reduced -10(210), passing reduced by 2 to zero -20(190).

Is this correct? I’m guessing you can reduce passing to nothing?

You should ask the tournament organizers opinion, because people interpet the mercenary rules in different way, and it needs a GW FAQ.

I would love to know if this has been addressed as of yet? Seems it would be good to know how mercs actually work, not just guess.
