Those were indeed the best days. That 88-90 bracket. Not for the rules as such, but for the feel of the games; warhammer, 40k and BB.

yup, those rule books rocked.

The lack of background is far and away the thing that bugs me most about the latest rule book.
@harvestmouse: Though, to be fair, that probably has a lot to do with those years corresponding to a certain age in a young mouse's life, right?

Ah - when mutations were randomly decided and you could get spontanous combustion - and there was no deliberate retiring of players, was there?

random mutation SHOULD be brought back...
I mean, you know, CHAOS gods an all that....

Agreed with harvestmouse - the game was nowhere near as good, but the likes of White Dwarf actually published interesting articles, instead of being a glossy brochure as it is now. Who can forget the Bzzz, Chop, Thunk result on the Chainsaw table?
If the rumoured new Bloodbowl black box actually does a decent job on the history and fluff, I could be persuaded to feed a GW cashcow, just this once, limited edition or no.

The 2nd edition handbook is awesome. It really brought BB to life for me and made me want to fluff up teams and games when I first started playing.

3rd edition has some good snippets of history in too.
I remember in the early 90s there were some great battle reports in White Dwarf, used to love those.
