Bloodbowl, A Game of Life & Death
We all know that feeling, playing a nice game of bloodbowl, when suddenly, SPLOOSH! Either you or your opponent has lost a player forever.

Well my most recent game with my undead team (fitting called 'A Game of Life & Death') against some Zons only lasted 4 turns, in which 4 players died. And if we'd carried on the game, and that death rate had continued, we would've broken the record for most deaths in one game (8).

So it makes me wonder, that a game were death is a big mechanic like bloodbowl, there actually isn't *that* much death. And when nuffle gets replaced with Khorne, and many die, conceding is the norm.

So does this make it impossible to break that record? Would anyone finish a game were roughly half the players that started it end it in coffins?

And also, what are your experiences with these extreme matches? How close have you gotten to that record of 8 deaths in a game?

We had 6 between the two of us... my opponent actually suggested we go for the record when we had 6 by early the 2nd half I think... he was super cool about it. When that happens and you know you're retiring the team... might as well go for the record!! Don't be a sissy quitter-baby about it... swim in the blood and bonk your head on the tombstones!!

The thing is, it gets to the point when half your team is out, that the odds of losing many more in dramatically reduced, so you might as well finish the game.

Plus, you get those much needed winnings for the rebuild!

Never conceded a game yet, don't plan to. :)

Deaths make a better tale than players quitting the team in disgust. PLAY ON! :D

+1 never conceded, some players dying doesn't make others more or less likely too. I believe it's called "random".

Not conceding *is* really good. (I can't claim that as I have once, can't say I'm proud of that)

But what I was interested in is . . . Do you think that, because conceding exists, we won't ever break that death record??

It is not just concessions. It is also not wanting to use av7 teams and not wanting to play vs heavy bashers.

Also people generally playing lower TV so not meeting teams with such heavy bash potential.

I wouldn't say conceding is "the norm". And I hope it never becomes that way either. I have conceded twice in my FUMBBL tenure, once when I was just starting out (I had come from a TT league where stalling was frowned upon), and once when facing... a certain box team who will not be named. And I'd say I've TAKEN maybe 10 concessions in 700 games. (Granted, that's still around 7 too many.)

The thing is, generally speaking, 1/6 of casualties are deaths. So even if you have 20 casualties (an almost impossible number, especially considering the short rosters most teams play with), you're going to average a little over 3 deaths. 8 would be highly, highly unlikely.

(Side note: the only division where 20-casualty games are even a distinct possibility is Stunty. but Stunty is also unlikely to ever have an 8-death game, because of the auto-BH on cas rolls of 9. Barring MB etc., that leaves an average of 70% of casualties on stunties being BH, and only 10% being deaths...)

Yeah, I think its only possible between 2 regen teams. That way there will be plenty of players on the pitch to continue with the dying.

Paul Hicks and I got close. he holds the record for most deaths of charioteers in one game, five.
