can anyone explain this? blocking question
in this match:
http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=3506082

turn 2, the str5 squig tries to block a str2 halfling. the halfling has a defensive assist from the tree, the squig has an offensive assist from hopper

how come this was 2 dice, not 3?
surely 3 dice is when one player is more than double the strength of the other?

halfling has ST3, squig has ST6

It's because 5+1 is not more than double 2+1.

ST5 + assist = 6ST
ST2 + assist = 3ST

So not more than double

hmm
i thought assists cancel out, but actually they just add +1 str
so its not 5v2, its 6v3

They add assist, combing for ST. Its a funny thing to wrap ya head around.

reading is the real hardness

This sort of issue must have come up before in over 300 games? Ah well, good to have it sorted out now.

i've never noticed it before, no.

my first experience with BB was years ago before i found fumbbl i just played cyanide single player for maybe 20-30 games without reading the rules. and learnt* how the blocking works mostly by trial and error
i guess it shows that assuming assists cancel, is a reasonable working approximation. now i know though!

I've also taught myself how the blocking works by playing this game and I was working on the assumption that an assist cancels. I'd played BB years ago so there was no chance I'd remember now.

adding strength makes a lot more sense, especially after some of the times I've been sat looking at my screen like: he cancels him, he cancels him, he'll get 2D here if I blitz from that direction......1D! dang it! lol
