The 1d6 Question
I'm beginning to become aware of how luck is perceived (by most...) in this game.

I've heard people talk about "being hated by Nuffle" or "being hopelessly jinxed" and so on. Sometimes they are right... sometimes I feel there is a little bit of exaggeration. I'll try to explain why.

BloodBowl is a game of dice. The dice in question are D6's. NOT D10 or D20.
If you roll a D6 you'll get a 6 well... one out of 6 times. And a snakeeyes (double 1) will come out every 36 times. And so on...

So one out of 6 passes of your wood elf thrower will be intercepted even by mummies and on an average of 3-4 dodges/turn will mean that at least 2-3 of your woodies will trip and hit the ground.

Doubleskull/reroll/doubleskull is bound to happen more often than you think especially if you are a bashy coach like me (on roughly 50-60 blocks/match you'll get one every 25 matches - my actual 200 matches played means that I'should have been quadruple skulled at least eight times).

So you see, what happens in a single match is hardly indicative of good luck and bad luck.

To see if you are overall "lucky" or "unlucky" a better indicator is maybe the "statistics" page on your profile. As for today, for example, I've been lucky with block/casualties average.

It seems that one block out of 17 I do has caused a CAS. While only one out of 27 opponent's block has caused a CAS on me.

This is evened up somewhat by the bad luck when rolling CAS damage against me. On 228 CAS I got on my teams, the BH were 50% less than the average expected. This means that wen I hurt myself, I tend to die or injury more than the standard (and often SI do have some kind of lasting damage I'll add).

Anyway, getting back to the point, fact is: you don't need unbelievably bad luck to completely screw up a game. You just need mild bad luck... unless you are good enough to minimize each and every roll you make in the game.

That's what the real good here can do and will do.

Will I become as good as them?

...hmmm, hardly. I like funky plays too much. But hey, I'm still having one hell of a fun time here.

^^

EDIT: text corrected as for the "Dice" blog entry of borton. Now that grammar is right, the world is a better place. And with more kittens.
