DLE Razorbacks interview s7 draft
This is a special edition where the usual pressconference with Razorbacks is changed to an interview with headcoach Johnson DeVille(JD), performed by no other than yours truely, Robbert Graaf(RG).

I have been here many times. Covering the do's and dont's from one of the most exciting team in DLE. From season 6 the team proclaimed that every season is a push season, and anything other than playoff would be a failure. Here I am, meeting with the flamboyant headcoach, to hear what he has to say about his last failure.

I sit in a big couch in a great hall. Teamcolours on the walls and the spectacular red walls, with the grey floor, all mixed nicely with dashes of yellow. The way headcoach wants it. Trophies like Van Kassels boot, and other higly aclaimed artefacts are at display in this great hall.

DeVille enters.

JD: Welcome dear mr. Graaf. Good to have you with us again, to tell the true story of our great franchise. So, what do you have on your mind this fine day.

RG: Well.. ehrm. You said last season that every season should have playoff football for the Razorbacks, but you were not in the mix this season with a record of 5/8/3, and finishing 8th in the conference. What happened?

JD: We didn't do as our motto. Just win, baby! And the stats of the season speak for itself. We played uphill in TW 13 of 16 games. Every game above 300k diff gave a loss. We didn't lose being overdog at any point. We were in the mix for best defence very late in the season, but that didn't cut it for us. We simply didn't score enough TDs, ending up with too many draws.

RG: Is Vann getting too old?

JD: It is certain that he is not pulling the same weight as before. His role has changed with his injuries. The enemy still needs to look out for him, and he is still their prime target. Who doesn't want to kill a true legendary player?

RG: What will you do to get more TDs?

JD: We are looking high and low for gamechangers in all shapes.

RG: Are you looking in the draft?

JD: Yes. But this draft is a funny size. Blitzers are in shortage, not many good throwers. No real linemen with guard or MB. They will all be gone in round 1. Then what? Catchers! We go catchers big time!! The catcherclass is very strong, and we are weak as a team in that regard.

RG: Some will say that last draft you made some huge errors by drafting John "doc" Holliday(blitzer - Tackle/Diving Tackle/Dodge) as early as you did. Will this happen again?

JD: No. But that is because we look at the draft differently than most other teams. We don't search for the right marketvalue on a player, or where his hotzone is in the draft. We want real players, and those who fit our plans, we draft. So if we draft a player "too high" then fine. We draft that player because we want him in the Razorback family.

RG: You sold "Doc"?

JD: Yes. He had a hard time with the playbook. Was too high level for him, so that was our real mistake. Lucky for us he is past, and we traded in Jonny 'Just Tacklin' Jones (blitzer - MB/Tackle) at midseason as we saw the draft was low on potential killers. Jones have had a hard time delivering, but he still managed to learn how to Pile On properly. His future with us is bright! And this way we avoided the blitzermarket this draft.

RG: So draft is all about catchers. What about next season?

JD: Well. Sadly Eagles are still a powerhouse, and we see them as favorites to the division. Scimitars have sold half the team after a winning a season. Thats how it is with small teams. They have a hard time keeping the talent. 49ers I have no idea about. Non other than we must beat them. We still aim for the playoff, and the top 6 in the conference.

RG: That sounds nice, but why should we believe you this time?

JD: Sure some will have doubt. But just watch and see.

RG: What do you mean?

JD: Well. This playoff was a horrible thing to watch. All the players wanted to be part of the party. And frankly. We need to go out and show these team how to play playoff. What have we had? 2 killed in all of the playoff? What kind of brand is that for the league. If this league wants to be taken seriously, we must provide some blood for the fans! We made 37 cas this season. We will make more next season!!! And the playoff teams? pfft?!?! Many of them are not dangerous at all. Both Scimitars and Universe was almost crying when they got in. What about my players? We have no team next season. /boo! Thats what I say. And Foxes? not APOing their big star Youngblood, only to lose to the Pats the game after. The Pats are no better. Not APOing Winston, and BAM! losing to the Classics. And Greenskins? Coming to the playoff and almost like they didn't want to score or win. Rangers? where were their killer instinct? The list is much onger, believe me! We wanna show them all how to win next next season. Frankly. The only team to be proud of this playoff is Classics. They didn't hurt much, they did dish out some CAS. They get our respect!

(Dislaimer! All the coach said is just banter and fun. It is not the point to get anyone butthurt on this)

RG: But what about...

JD: Oh shut up! You know I am right about this. The playoff is an honour to be in, and those teams better perform their best and field the best posible team at all times. Tha includes APOing MNG stars! Yes this league is the play, but is it better to be in playoff and then get scared of playing? Or is it better to just go full in, and give it your all? When the smokes clears, you see what team you have left, and then you start trading acordingly... and in the old days, back when bla... Then we knew a rock has hit... bla... Fouling I tell you, fouling is the key to... bla... bla... bla...

This is where I took off. Coach got himself all worked up, and it was like the interview was over. I don't think he saw me leaving, and I heard from staff that he went on for hours about how the league should step up and foul more, and kill more. Where did he get all this nonsens... Isn't this about great plays, and good games and in the end hailling a valiant winner?

Well. RG is out... I hope you enjoyed the read.

All these Seasons and I have not recognized the kindred spirit I have in Coach Johnson DeVille. I doff my hat and hope and pray that he and his team will deliver in the future, and not only talk about killing more and fouling more.

Yours sincerely Mr. Eric Winsberger, Chairman of the Dietmar Althoff Foundation, Head of the DA Awards committee and captain of the Carroburg chapter of the Janine von Meyer Fanclub. (Go Grizzlies! Let there be blood in the streets of Middenheim!)

I sense a sequel....when coach Sonrises and DeVille do a rantversation....next chapter could be DeVille with Jefferey talking about team management, and Jefferey trying to milk DeVille...the possibilities are endless! XD
