Something of his status and significance can be seen in the fact that several major newspapers have written long obituaries of him. Not bad for a guy who only wanted to play rock'n'roll.

Glad I went to see him perform on his lasta tour.

Saw Motorhead with Iron Maiden in Rome, 2005. Probably best concert of my life. He'll be missed.

I saw Hawkwind a couple of years ago with lemf. There is nothing more rock and roll than that.

A true legend. What resilience he had considering his drinking and speed. Lemmy is a great documentary on him from a few years ago. Though for a wild rock legend he did seem a calm fellow, enjoying the fruit machines.

@Triton: I know, great luck! And you're right, bit of a stretch. Was more about all-time greatest bass players with longish hair and he had to make the list. Though I could have thrown more guys on there if I totally broke the hair rule: Pastorius, Wooten, Miller, Flea, Entwistle, Lee are the obvious ones...
