175 Fumbbl Tour, May 2009.
Well, finally got my first round finished with huge success. I chose to play a human team, my Brookline Brawlers, a themed team of mine (okay, all of my teams are themed), but this is a team based upon me and my friends from my childhood, growing up and playing football.

This is also the team I had won a Rookie Royal Rumble with. My first round opponent was the Grimestone Basherz, a tough orc team coached by gruntle.

This was a very competitive and fun game. The game was closely matched each time and in the end, I had seemed to have stopped a last minute drive by the orcs to tie the game. Gruntle had an orc blitzer in 3 TZ's who had to dodge out, pick up the ball and make 2 go for its to tie. He was able to use a reroll and pull off the improbable.

We were forced to pause the finish in overtime due to me getting called into work unexpectedly by the fire chief, but we resumed exactly where the game left off on the kick off to the orcs in overtime.

As fate would have it, weather changed to rain on the kick off and this would prove to be a deciding factor in the finish.

In a battle that raged back and forth, I managed to pin the orcs down forcing the thrower to hand off to an agility-4 orc. He fumbled the ball and I pressed on, pushing players away and picking up the ball.

To counter, the orcs managed to spring free, and another orc blitzed my lineman, stunning him and catching the loose ball in the rain. Again, tides would turn and eventually my humans managed to get the ball back again and finally score.

With not much time left, the orcs were forced to try to get down field. Fate would intervene and a blizzard surfaced, again hampering orc offensive efforts. A deep kick by the Brookline Brawlers didn't hurt that effort any either, limiting orcs to short passes only thanks to the snow. Try as they might, the orcs could not compensate for a deep set defense that manged to hold them back and not yield a path to score.

A game down to the wire, and coach gruntle was a very good and capable coach. Lady luck chose humans this match, and that's just the way it is sometimes.

An excellent game, and this exactly shows why I like to play in some of these tournaments on here, it's quality opponents like gruntle.
