The Mary’s Land Terrible Terrapins kicked off their conference play with a win against the UDUB Ratskis. While this win certainly is needed for the struggling Mary’s Land team, it came at great cost as one of the team’s stars, David Damascus
(major - biomechanics), was tragically killed. The team’s (former) apothecary, was unable to save David, and ended up pushing the star further towards death. After the game it was revealed that said apothecary was actually an business student who's only qualification was that they were on a ‘pre-med’ track.
Coach Lancelott addressing reporters after the game and the death of David Damascus
“We sacrificed them to Sotek,” coach Lancelott said simply after the game. “Their screams of agony, while somewhat satisfying, do little to ease the pain of losing David. He was with us at the start and had developed into a very dynamic player. He will be deeply missed.”
Coach Lancelott at this point stopped talking, clearly affected by the loss of such an integral player and what many had called a personal friend.
“We must go on, there are more games on the schedule and a chance for us to still achieve all that we set out to do,” coach Lancelott eventually continued. “It would be what David would want.”
The game itself was an exciting back and forth, with Mary’s Land scoring early utilizing David Damascus’ gutter runner like speed. UDUB quickly answered, scoring towards the end of the first half. Mary’s Land was, however, able to score again at the end of the first half, with David again finding the end zone.
The second half started with another high kick, the third of the game, which set up the rats of UDUB for an easy score. With the teams tied 2-2, the Mary’s Land team knew that they needed to secure the win and David was ready to step up to the challenge. Grabbing the ensuing kickoff, the chameleon skink moved methodically down the field when tragedy struck. Harmony One-Love, the team’s star Krox, who until this point had executed a flawless game was suddenly struck by the beauty of the grass on the field and stopped listening to the coach’s screamed instructions. This left David tragically unprotected for Michael “Phoenix” Junio to throw a block that took them both down. David, who had been tracking a gutter runner chasing him from the backfield, was unprepared for the block and was struck in the head.

A distraught Harmony was quoted after the game saying, “I don’t know... I get distracted sometimes. I miss my friend…” She later broke down, running from the podium and hasn’t been seen for days.
While the team recovered from this devastating loss, moving the ball down field and punishing the rats for the kill by injuring Michael along with seriously hurting Kevin “Mean” Green Jr., killing Justice “Dealing” Williams and causing a neck injury to Khak Rck, the feeling in the stadium had palpably changed. Everyone knew that Blood Bowl was a violent sport, but no one thought that this could have been the outcome for such a star player.
The Mary’s Land Terrible Terrapins look to rebuild their backfield with the upcoming match with the UNLV Thorwin’ Rebels. We will look to see who steps into David’s claws moving forward.
