you threw a whistle in a rugby players face and are shocked he punched you?

Not his face. And it was a lob.

My history teacher in high school was the captain of the Chicago amateur rugby team. Every Monday morning he came in with either a black eye or some other mark on his face. That's kinda par for the course, no?

Dont play rugby or ref it. Fight in sted there you know they are going to punch you and you are prepared.

"and no longer playing for sheep stations," I didn't really understand this, but I liked it a lot.
Surely hitting the ref is a season ban, no?

RfU in Britain would ban this guy sine die in no time at all.

Heh reading comprehension, anyway amateur reffing must be one of the worst jobs in the world, can be pretty dangerous here in Denmark too I've heard and no pay to speak of.

I was reffing last night (Canadian Football, mind). I have to say I perversely enjoy intimidating the large young men.
"Walk away!"
"I wasn't doing anything"
"And if you just walked away, I could know that for sure, couldn't I?"
".... yeah.... ok..."

Season Ban. Well I am pretty sure that his team has told him not to turn up again. I have to report it to the rugby union as it is compulsory... so it should be a life ban from them.
just read a report from the like 90's which sited research like 9% of refs had been assaulted at some point in their career??
one thing that i can say for my team, i have had lots of supportive text messages form the old fellas.
however what is going to be interesting is explaining the shiner at work tomorrow ;-)

indeed.
luckily stuff like this is still a rarity in a lot of sports.

Sounds like fun!
I suppose he can appeal and you might get a ban from ref'ing too after the vicious attack with the whistle.
