There has been a lot in the news recently about the French and their move to ban burkas and I just want to voice my opinion about burkas.
I think burkas are quite sexy.
I mean, you can see bikinis everywhere in summer. There are naked women all over the internet. They leave little or nothing to the imagination.
A burka though, all you get to see are the eyes...

Meh, anyways, burkas suck and do nothing but reinforce rules of repression that were instigated hundreds of years ago by a bunch of ageing misogynists. Furthermore, all they do is make me think that whoever's underneath them has a beard and doesn't ever wash.

Hahaha, being French, I can tell we probably will have people striking (we do that all the time, today the SNCF (train company) is on strike, for example). Or burning cars :D
On a serious note, I do not like burkas, but I don't think banning them will fix any of the problems they show.

My personal opinion is that the French are making an intriguing effort to combat a very real issue: fundamentalism. Whether it will work or not, I wouldn't speculate.
However, I don't think it's an effort to force an opinion on others, moreso to oppose those that are the most fanatical about their beliefs (and consequently, are the most forceful about their opinions). In other words, it's not about saying no to burkhas, it's about saying no to those think burkhas should be forced on others.
Plus, the beard/washing issue.
Me? I'm a hippy. I'll go for anything that promotes equality. After all, just as many Muslims as non-muslims should have the right to work in strip bars. 8p

To Elbo : Well there are different types of "burqa" ; all of them are meant to cover the whole body, but some have an opening for the eyes, while other have some sort of "fence" (like in your image) or a thick veil to cover even that. He probably have seen that :
