DLE: Wreckers season 5 pre season training camp day 1
With the draft done everyone now looks at finalising their final team rosters and the Wreckers currently have 18 players on the books and only 16 slots. Staff have therefore looked at doing some pre season training days. Most slots are pretty much finalised and coach Hoodless and his staff are looking at the following players: Reid Fragel, Trai Turner, Zac Dysert and Ryan Nassib. Kurt Allerman and Mike Tomczak have already been released from their contracts after the influx of draftees and traded players.

Day 1

Blocking Training

Looking at blocking practice and it was clear that Turner had been trained in this aspect with Fragel, Dysert and Nassib all lacking the training in that area. This puts Turner ahead of Fragel early into the race for the last LOS position.

Taking blocks seems to be much less clear cut. Although Fragel is more likely to be knocked down than Turner he has good feet allowing him to hold his position and a hard head meaning he can take hits that would send other players off the pitch. Turner on the other hand is marginally better at not getting knocked down but after 4 seasons the hits have taken a toll on his body. If knocked down he is much more likely to either be spending more time on the ground or even off the pitch altogether.

With taking blocks this is something to look at with Dysert and Nassib as although both are less likely to be on line duty carrying the ball carries the inherent risk of being hit. So with that said both lacking the ability to take hard blocks is a negative but both have shown a good ability to avoid stumbling when being blocked which is a positive for both. At the moment it appears to be a stalemate for the 2 backup throwers

Running Training

Next was running drills and this brought up some issues for turner. Again the seasons of abuse on his body have resulted in him being significantly slower than the other candidates with him having to push himself to his limit just to keep up with Fragel, Dysert and Nassib. The other 3 showed to be as expected for their running abilities which was of no great surprise.

Dysert and Nassib were taken to one side to do some specialist drills that come with their role. The ability to pickup and move freely which can include dodging past players is important. Both impressed the coach with their ability to pick up the ball on the go and the dodging drills also resulted in an impressed coach as both had learnt the art of dodging well. Stalemate again between the two.

Next up: 7 vs 7 game
