At long last, 100 ranked games
This is my first blog post and it’s a self-reflective one. You’ve been warned!

I joined Fumbbl over six years ago to play in a private league. I was a mediocre coach at best. I ventured a little into [R] but found scheduling in IRC tiresome. Also, I was a little unlucky with injuries and team building. Back in the days of LRB4 team building took much more patience, and Majors were dominated by high TR teams with improbable stat increases. When I quit my league in bad blood, I also quit Fumbbl and deleted all my teams.

I came back years later to join another private league with friends, shortly before the transfer to the FFB client was made. I stuck to [L] for a while, eventually tried [ B] and wasn’t very successful at first. But I started spectating matches on a regular basis, which improved my understanding of the game. Watching matches in the Majors and chatting with the other specs is quite entertaining, I was surprised to discover!

Sure CRP/LRB6 has its weaknesses, but overall the game has become much more accessible, it’s much easier to build up a competitive team. I know some of you guys play 20 matches in a week but I usually can play 2-3 matches at best, including league matches, so the easier team-building was a huge improvement for me and an incentive to try and get into official tournaments (I’ve entered 3 RRR’s, 1 SMACK, 1 Minor and 2 Majors so far).

Now, at long last, I’ve taken it to 100 ranked games (well, [R] ‘n’ [ B] combined) and I’m hungry for more! I’ve improved my winning percentage considerably (though partly through, er, strategic team building *cough*) and I’ve just recently won my first title in the private league that brought me here, with Darkies. Plans for the next couple months:

  1. Take my [ B] Norse beyond 1600 TV and kick the crap out of some Clawpombing Chaos teams! Also, take them into Crown of Sands and try to beat my 3rd round Black Cup entry. Maybe complete a Sprint (but in truth, not very likely).
  2. Take a shot at Human Conference (though again, completing 16 matches not very likely).
  3. Play my [R] Woodies more. Maybe build up a team to enter into Ulthuan Invitational.
  4. Try Norse “as intended” (with all positionals) in [R]. Maybe build up a team to enter into GLT Forlorn Races Qualifier.
  5. Defend my league title with my Darkies.

Overall, Fumbbl has never been as much fun to me as today. The LRB6 rules, FFB client, Blackbox division and the new Game Finder have all been great additions to the site which have made it much more accessible and inviting for a more casual player like myself. I am awed by the dedication and skill of the people who keep it running, in particular Christer and Kalimar, and would like to take this opportunity to say thank you (and make a donation). Also, as far as nerdy internet communities go, you guys are a pretty decent bunch. :D
