I had a great time over the weekend at the
Spike Magazine Major Table top Tourney. My local club
thunderbowl hosted it for the 5th straight year in Vancouver BC Canada. There were 50 some odd coaches, including 4 traveling Swede's, Many Americans and 1 Awesome Dane (
KFoged.) We had had fun lots of laughs and even played 6 games of Blood Bowl.
The Tournament scene is low around these parts. I actually enjoy playing tournaments and have been inspired by the Europeans I have met, to do some traveling. I’ll start small/ close and work my way into some bigger trips over the next couple years.
My record with Slann.... was 2-3-1. Little disappointing when looking at it like that., but I am happy with my results when thinking back on the actual game play. Slann are tough for most coaches. I really enjoy them. 2 of the losses could have easily been ties or wins. Nuffle can be a real bitch sometimes.
I never really knew what people meant by community until this weekend. I thought I did, but now know I didn’t. It is a great group of people who at most times can laugh out loud at the each other failures and accomplishments. We are a rare bunch of people. On a blood bowl pitch we all understand the same thing. That winning isn’t everything, but it also is everything at the same time. The only things you gain in the end are great stories and cool experiences. Being able to brag to your new friends all Saturday night about a win, loss or kill. I smashed a friend of mine 3-0 this weekend, and we laughed out loud the whole time. It is really cool, in my mind, to meet the same kind of people, who share the same hobby. It’s such a unique environment, and a plethora of people. I am happy from this weekend’s experience and am excited about the possibility of more. I can’t wait to personally meet more of you face to face. It is a better experience kicking your asses online after meeting you in person! XD. I even put a face to one coach who has been on a BB Podcasts this weekend!
The Chaos Cup and Spike! Tournaments are 1 week apart every year in September. Chicago, then Vancouver. If you are thinking about making some vacation plans, think about hitting both of these on a North American tournament for that vacation. They are both great Cities. I’ll be looking into some Europeans trips and hopefully hitting some other Majors. I really want to say, Thanks for the fun community!
