Undercoat the cloth black, watered down boltgun metal on top. Then a thin coat of chainmail on the raised areas then a very thin lines of mythril silver on the edges and most raised parts. Assuming you are using GW paints.

silver clothes o-O never heard of them, but i agree with Garion, black undercoat, next boltgun and chainmal, but everything with thick and dry paintbrush and gently brushing.

I really don't want it to look metallic. I had been assuming mixing some metal like boltgun with a light grey... no? Is the flow of the modelling enough to make it clearly cloth?

hmm but boltgun, chainmal or mithrill will be always metalic lol, the question is what model you want paint with this colour. I found some silver clothes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_9MI2ymN6s
Btw Macavity, is this your fetish ? silver underpants or something as black velvet skin.

Book accurate Gandalf, silver scarf. I'm thinking a mix, as mentioned. Metallic with a flat grey.
