Football once again makes a bold claim as the inspiration of Blood Bowl
Once again real life mirrors Blood Bowl...Thus football makes another bold claim to be the inspiration for BB and not the NFL.

Iam sure we all know of Bruno Fernandes de Souza, right?

If you do not, here is the back story.

So if you are to lazy to hit links I will summarize for you.

Bruno kidnapps his girlfriend, locks her up in a shed, beats her, then has her killed and then dismembers her and feeds her to his dogs.

All over child support.

Gets sentenced to 22 years in jail.

BUT

Brazil is a progressive and forward looking nation, always striving to champion the rights of convicts and their hearts bleed to re integrate them to their progressive society.

SO

He now has a nice 5 year multi-million dollar deal to play for one of Brazils top notch club teams. He is allowed to play matches home and away, go to practice but always under the gaze of his armed guards.

OR

Brazil...World Cup...One of Brazils top goalies in jail....strings get pulled....Just talking out loud on this theory.

This guy makes Max Spleenripper look like a piker OR is he Max's long lost cousin?

Yes, he is on work release to continue to play

You do know any argument quoting the Daily Mail is automatically invalid don't you?
Posted by Scaramanga on 2014-03-28 16:10:09
crazy.
Posted by latulike on 2014-03-28 16:12:24
You can't afford not to have "the" good goalie in a soccer team. That's the point. :)
Posted by the.tok on 2014-03-28 16:22:19
Are you discovering just now that having a lot of money and influence greatly helps when facing justice? ;-)

This one's really clockwork orange level though...
Posted by Cavetroll on 2014-03-28 16:25:39
I did a little searching online and I couldn't find a more recent article than the Daily Mail. However, what I did find corroberates the murder facts at least. Just not the idea that he might get a deal to continue playing football while serving his sentence.

Still, he certainly does seem like he would fit in on any chaos-themed team in Blood Bowl.
Posted by licker on 2014-03-28 17:05:12
Football?

Oh, you're talking about sissykick.

Talk about a misleading blog...
Posted by the.tok on 2014-03-28 17:37:38
Yeah, football, you know the one where you actually use your foot :p

OT I do not think it has anything to do with the world cup though.

He's really not on the same level as Julio Cesar, even though he's getting old. That plus it's not like defense is important for Brazil anyway ;)
Posted by licker on 2014-03-28 17:42:49
I'm not sure there's a sport in existence where you don't use your feet.
Posted by Calcium on 2014-03-28 17:45:22
I really want to raise to Lickers obvious bait r.e. football Vs American football but wont :)

I think I'll take the high road though with regards to my ex's unpaid child maintenance for my boys (yes, women have to pay too if the children live with dad!) as clearly taking someone hostage, beating them then dismembering them and turning them into Pedigree Chum involves effort, and my ex is really not worth it ;)

LOL..Good one Calcium

Here is a link to his contract and work release to continue to play for millions.

I put the link in the main blog

I have never heard of Montes Claros. They appear to be an amateur team as they don't show up on any list of Brazilian teams that I have seen. I doubt he has a multi million pound contract. Seems more likely to be a day release thing... still not a great thing, but hardly that big of story. Never believe everything the Daily mail says. EVER.

I absolutely love the Daily Mail.

It's constantly hilarious.

Read the comments for even the blandest of articles and you'll find the absolute worst the UK has to offer.
Posted by Malmir on 2014-03-28 20:32:21
Without doing any research, or reading any of the links in this post, I can confirm, don't believe the Daily Mail ever. If you ever buy a copy, check even the date very carefully.

Watching football (soccer) nowadays, kills people, its a fact. Its so uncomfortable yet true if you stay sincere and consequent that you may think only a drink may help you now...but wait....yeah... ;)

The day governments start privatising water is the day human mankind has officially turned into cattle. Which is just the term Nestle bosses who work on it are using nowadays to describe their (future) customers.

Love me some politics on fumbbl, though i know there are those who want fumnbbl to stay free of any politics and controversy coming from it. I see that, ist a valuable view, but i think we can balance it out a bit. Interesting post, though personally, it makes me angry and doesnt provide me with good emotions. Im thankful i read it. Fuck soccer, unless you play it with your mates.
Posted by AaronDP83 on 2014-03-28 21:21:48
LOL!!! Soccer is the inspiration for bloodbowl?? A game in which the players wear pads and helmets and block and hit each other and THROW and CATCH an american shaped football? Kinda like what they do in the NFL?? And they have players that are blitzers and catchers and throwers and linemen. Sounds like a mirror image to the NFl and NOT soccer to me. :)

He's definitely going to be the next new player on Malodorous Malefactors:

Players get to wear armor in Blood Bowl? I've had quite a few that were completely oblivious to this fact ;)
Posted by Cavetroll on 2014-03-28 22:05:51
that should have read 'I've had quite a few LATELY that were completely oblivious to this fact'. Stoopid work computer.

PainState–– your summary is misleading and lacks a very crucial point. He did not personally do these things–– he paid someone else to do them. This distinction might mean nothing to you (or me), but it means everything in the world from a legal perspective. As such, his personal crimes are non-violent, which means that he is not an immediate threat to society. In other words, there is no reason to believe that he is going to randomly attack someone on the street, etc. When choosing between rapists and non-violent criminals, non-violent criminals should be paroled first, don't you agree?

The bottom line is that incarceration can either be punitive or rehabilitative. The punitive systems make victims (or their families) feel better in the short term, but the rehabilitative systems are better for society in the long term. Brazil chooses the rehabilitative type, and allowing limited release from prison for the purposes of work is one method of rehabilitation. It's important to point out that post-prison employment is an absolutely devastating problem in the USA, and is directly responsible so many former convicts becoming repeat-criminals. And when choosing which criminals to include in this type of out-worker program, it makes sense to choose the non-violent ones, no?

The way most people (myself included) react to this story stems from a feeling of 'that guy did something really evil and hasn't yet paid for it with enough personal suffering'. The larger question is "Is personal suffering the most effective response to anti-social behavior?". Our ancestors thought so. But our ancestors also killed people for having a different skin-tone.

Your version does make for a much better story, though, which I know is the point of the blog!

@cameronhawkins... I see your point, *BUT* if he's a non-violent criminal that only *paid* someone ELSE to murder... then giving him a job where he has excess cash is rehabiliating him *HOW* again!??! ;D

People getting away with paying killers is good for society? O_0

@cameronhawkins

I'm not sure you're right there mate about legal perspectives. Legally, if I pay to have x killed both myself and the killer can and should be charged with murder. Not only that, you can be charged with attempted murder for just negotiating and paying for a contract killing because it constitutes taking what's called a "substantial step" towards committing the crime.

All recent UK case law has viewed defendants that have tried to hire someone to kill someone else as extremely dangerous and sentences have been pretty lengthy.

The above is certainly true for the UK. I can't be arsed to research the law in the US but I can't imagine it'll be much different. I have no idea what the law is in Brazil but I suspect he will still be classed as a "violent" criminal.

If you're interested in rehabilitative justice and recidivism rates have a look at Norway: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/feb/25/norwegian-prison-inmates-treated-like-people

FINALLY, a Round Baller that acts like a Baller. I would have thought a soccer player would have first faked her murder and then dropped to the ground in riling in pain, pretending he was upset?

Here in Canada if we want to get rid of an ex, we first get them drunk, then we take them out fishing and then push them off the boat. "I can't believe that happened officer. She is normally is amazingly agile for a drunk." :)

"... kidnapps his girlfriend, locks her up in a shed, beats her, then has her killed and then dismembers her and feeds her to his dogs ..."

Guys, what's the fuss about, he's done nothing wrong, let's just rehabilitate him. It's been society's fault anyway, deep down in his heart he's a good chap actually.

Ah, and don't forget he's a football star. Surely demigods are supposed to be exempt from petty laws meant for the common herd, else the judicial system would be severely flawed.

Well, at least people will be safe for at least 90 minutes every week.

(me shamelessly quoting the best article comment)

I had posted last year about the ref that was drawn and quartered last year. I posted about that zany event with ronaldo 2 years ago.

Everybody took it for what it was. A zany/crazy event that had at is core soccer/football.

Yet this time I posted a interesting sports story of a player gettting out of jail to keep playing on work release and some of you obvisously took it as some deep poilitical message I was sending out.

THE ONLY REASON I POSTED IT WAS IT IS A INTERESTING SPORTS RELATED STORY.

Hundreds of convicts are released every day around the world...they dont make news or the FUMBBL blogs because they do not play soccer and nobody knows who they are. Heck if our hooligan goalie got work release to work at the basket weaving factory we would not know it. The only reason this is news is he is on work release to play soccer professionally and signed a contract. Which most people around the world think that is whack.
