7th match : Victoryay
I won. Unexpected! 3-0. Totally unexpected!

This was against an orc team I already faced a couple games back (my 2nd ever game). I knew they mostly had low M and a couple players stronger than mine (BO mostly).

I posted a match comment. I think I did pretty great (well it DID end 3-0 in my favor). I encourage those watching my replays to post what they think, by the way.

What did I learn today?
- Must continue reading the rules! (I still havent had much time for this).
- Speeding through with a GR seems to go well when I can get beside each reacher with a player, then only need a dodge or 2 with the GR to score.
- fouling doesnt give CAS SP.
- reading the rules for the enemy's skills at the beginning of the game is pretty important : the thrower's Drop Off caught me completely by surprise, luckily it more or less failed and I scored anyway.
- sometimes, leaving players prone can actually be good. Mostly when I don't need their tackle zone at all. There's only 1 foul per turn and they risk getting ejected, while a block would hurt me anyway.
- Guides say rat-ogres pretty much suck at the beginning, and their loss of Block hurts. And they're compltely unreliable. Well that last part is true, but I find my RO to be pretty helpful : when played carefully, I manage to pretty much cut the field in 2 with him, which helps me a lot. If the opponent has to go through (or around) the RO that takes a lot of manpower and M, which leaves my other players safer. So I like my RO.
- Pending Skills prevents from buying anything else.
- doublecheck the roster. I bought a reroll last time... or did I? I know I did. But during the game, I noticed I had only 1 reroll (should have been 2) and still had the money to buy it.
- using the opponent's weakness. His guys mostly have S3? Easy block assist. His guys have low M? Keep the ball far away whenever I can, easier and less-risky long plays.

I now have a 50% rate, hurray! Foodsnatcher got his 3rd nose-picking MVP and got Kick (that'll help!) and Gsikahl (the GR that's not Gubla :p ) got Block, which makes my GR squad diversified.

I now have enough money to buy any player I want. I'm unsure, probably a SV or GR. And there's also the matter of retiring my niggling liner, but I think I'll wait. He gives me an edge as being scrimmage-fodder, and retiring only means lowering my rating.

Congratulations on the win!

Its always pleasing to see a whitewash against a bashy team.

And you encourage coaches to post what they think? 2 simple things:

Learn to stall

Avoid SPP hogging by key players

Against bashy teams, its very easy to lose 2 - 1 with skaven (or elves, humans, etc.) A 2 turn touchdown is easy to do, especially with gutter runners, but that leaves the bashers 6 turns to grind up the pitch and score. Thats 1 - 1 at half time, and then they recieve - should be easy pickings for them at that point as they grind up the pitch a second time in a cage that you'll find hard to break. Finding a way to stall for a couple of turns at least makes their equalizer that much harder to produce.

As for the second point, of SPP hogging, I'd like to give the example of one my own teams: Mean's Averages Take a look at the blitzers - they've done so much in the Average's matches that although they are quite awesome in their own right, they're unbalancing the team and causing some team bloat. With Gutter Runners, its even easier to do, as they're just built to score. Before you know it, you'll have four Gutters with 30+ SPP and the rest of your team will be lucky to get the MVP award.

In reality, the second point solves the first. If you score with a lineman, it'll take longer.

You're doing well, and its good to see another skven coach growing in confidence. Looking forward to playing you.
