TL;DR: Lizardmen are fun!
I recently wanted to help
Kam find his first game, but all my teams were TV 1600+. So, I retired some lame box team, and made a new team. Since he was playing flings, I felt it would be nice to play a team that didn't start with block. I also wanted to try out something new, so I went with
lizards for the first time. And boy are they FUN!
After that first game I decided I would make it my mission to focus entirely on developing my sauri. That meant not playing against claw-heavy teams, and trying not to play against too much AV9 (picker! /boo ; yes, I know).
It also meant making tons of 5+ hand off rolls. I initially expected that approach to result in a lot of losses, but surprisingly, it
hasn't (lizards start Nov 8th). So far the team has made 59 TDs, 40 of which were made by sauri (15 by
Scaly!). As a result, the sauri are getting pretty well developed.
I deliberately waited until late to acquire both mighty blow and break tackle, because a) mighty blow would scare off the squishies and b) both mighty blow and break tackle would diminish the focus on positioning, which is something I wanted to learn as I mainly play elves. Instead, after block most got guard and a few got tackle as first skill (except Bashy, who got blodge sidestep diving tackle, and Scaly, with his +ST).
One thing I'm still looking forward to is playing with some stars. I'd love to have a game 680k up at some point, where I could field both Slibli and Morg. There's something very cool about fielding a ST lineup of 6 5 5 4 4 4 4 4 4 2 2. Unfortunately, by the time I thought of this (looking at
Chainsaw in Fishbowl), I was just a few 10Ks short.
Development-wise there are so many good saurus skills that I could imagine lacking kick and leader forever. One thing I'm still on the fence about is sure hands. Leap strip ball is a major threat to this team, and sure hands should also save some rerolls for those 5+ rolls.
So in short: if you're interested in playing a blocking but not really bashing game, give lizards a go!
