SESSION TWO
I think this may be the most friendly forum/group I've ever come across in my 15 years on the net! I've made friends at www.bartertown.com and it's a good community too - great place to trade/buy/sell your minis; they even have a section quasi-dedicated to Blood Bowl.

I got the client running last night and tried to work on the IRC download - I went with ChatZilla since I have FireFox. Comments from yesterday tell me the IRC is down, but I had trouble getting into/running ChatZilla, so I hope to get it going tonight before my old body forces me, drags me - kicking and screaming - to bed!

Though I got the client running last night, I didn't do anything with it - like make a team. I'm at work now and have been reading here and there when I can. I am hoping (in the Academy) that I can create and store a few teams so I can try out different races. Then (after learning the rules so my turn doesn't take 20 minutes) I'll pick a favorite and ask around about leagues.

From my 'BB Demo' game (over a year ago @ my LGS) I learned that some races are 'very challenging' to play or, as the Demo guy put it, made to be fouled! LOL. I just want to play what I like, as I paint my real ones for when my son (years from now) is old enough to get himself up to the pitch, roll dice, and move his team!

I like: Halflings, Goblins, Ogres, and Lizardmen. I understand and accept that I will lose (a lot) w/these types of teams. Perhaps I will start with Humans or Orcs to learn, then play my favorites to learn their strengths/weaknesses.

Start out with humans, undead, orcs or amazons to get the hang of things before playing these teams as their style isn't very typical. Also, its going to be a hard enough battle to begin with. Goodluck.

You can do well with Lizzards. Try also the FBB div (fantasy foorball) since that is in beta to get to know the new client thats being implemented later, and it also uses the most current rule set. The beta teams will eventaully be wiped though.

Thanks Tomay - will do. :)

Thanks RC.

I assume the FBB/Beta is something I can access & download from the home page here on FUMBBL?

The FBB doesnt require a download, just create a team. And the IRC chat for fumbbl is back up and running now.

When did your last post change from Day 1 to Session 1? (though we weren't paying attention). If you are bored at work, forum search all posts by "Macavity" (remember to have them display as posts, not topics), read through from the beginning to pass the time!

If you aren't bored, read the first 7 or so pages of tactics for Noob competence (it's a sticky), it eventually gets repetitive and silly, but the first pages are gold if you hope to win at all!

I just edited my post a bit ago because I wasn't sure I would be here, literally, everyday and - being OCD - I thought 'session' would be more accurate than 'day.'

How can you NOT LOVE a title like "Tactics for Noob competence"?? That made me laugh out loud here at work - got some looks from my cube-mate.

Dont bother with academy. The concept is good but it can be quite hard to find games there.

Start with ranked but let people know you are new and ask them if they wouldnt mind giving you some tips afte the game. You will get some fairly dubious advice (and maybe some good advice) but its a start and you can begin to experiment and filter the gems from the rubbish. A few people might give you trouble over your turn time (or just trouble) but if you said "hey I'm new" (or your turns are 4 mins or less) then just ignore them. Maybe finish quick but bear in mind every barrel has bad apples and move on without thinking about it too much.

LIzzies are a great and special race. Halflings and GOblins are challenging races but it's possible to win with them by all means. You may wanna avoid dwarves tho. Matchups against them are really broken with such teams. Ie your win chance would be close to zero on equal coach skill.
Ogres are ... well they can be big fun but they are also a hell of a challenge. In the new rules even more then the old rules. it's fine to play these races, but don't let it press too much on your ego and be a bit carefull about the matchups you choose. Many people will want to play you so you're the one who will be able to get to choose.

Lizards are great the other two not so much. Orcs are generally a good starter race as they have few weaknesses. Just stick to the general rule of bloodbowl which is do not take any risks unless you have absolutely have to and try making as few rolls as possible a turn while still achieving your goals.

I would recommend starting a team in the FFB division no one really bothers with acadmey. Also the FFB division is currently a testing division for the new client which is almost finished. It has the latest ruleset and latest teams available and also the games do not effect your coach ranking as it is in testing phases at the moment. So get your practice in before if goes live. It is worth mentioning that any teams you create in FFB division will be deleted once the client is complete, so just use it as your training enviroment but dont be surprised if you lose a lot to start off with :) Also get readin the rules that are available on the GW web site in the bb resource section.

@ Garion, Macavity, Wreckage, and SillySod:

Advice taken! I will create an orc team to learn on and will do so in the FFB - just need to get it all sorted out. I dug out my old BB rules from last year, so I'm going to check the edition against the GW-BB site to see if they're still relevant/good.

I'll just keep it here on my desk for reference :)

As I've said many, many times already - THANKS!! to all of you who have posted and have given me tips; I'm really excited to get started and have myass handed to me (LOL).
